Outlander Screening (Recap +Giveaway)

On Tuesday I had the honour of attending a premier screening for Outlander.   Although this series has already released in the States it will be releasing here in Canada on Showcase, August 24, 2014 at 10pm.  This show is based on the wildly popular novels by Diana Gabaldon.  Outlander follows the story of Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743 Scotland, where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world and her life is threatened. When she is forced to marry Jamie Fraser, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, a passionate relationship is ignited that tears Claire’s heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

The event was held at The Caledonian in Toronto, which is a bit of a hike but completely worth the drive.  Once we got there and checked in I was offered a cocktail and despite my hesitations, I was actually excited to try the Outlander.  I'm not normally a huge cocktail girl but it looked wonderful (as you can see above).  Mine was a little strong for me but I enjoyed it bit by bit.  The Caledonian is really amazing and probably some place that I would have never experienced, had it not been for this.  I would recommend that if you are in the Toronto area, you stop in.

With cocktails there was some awesome appetizers to try.  I tried some vegetarian haggis, which I loved, while Adam had a Scotch Egg (or two) and I was told they were wonderful as well.  There were other things that I myself never got the chance to try, but I have to say the Scottish themed party was wonderful and the food and drinks were perfect!

Just before the screening started I had my picture taken with some Highlanders <3  It was an extremely fun addition to everything that had already been done, and most of the people that were in attendance were enjoying the men.  However, the best part came when the screening started.  I was highly anticipating seeing the show that had been creating so much buzz.  Let me add that the buzz is not unjustified.  I have now seen the first episode and am hooked!

It starts off with a bang(almost literally), and doesn't slow down from there.  The period costumes were spectacular, and the quality of the cinematography was breathe taking. Claire the heroine is witty, sharp tongued and is an all around strong female, that doesn't shy away from anything it seems.  I will say that this is not a show for a younger audience as there is graphic scenes and some very heated romance, but the age appropriate audience is going to LOVE this show!  I personally held my breathe, laughed and was riveted throughout.  I wish I could say more but seeing I don't want to ruin it and want you to all tune in, I wont.  So, don't forget to tune into Showcase tomorrow night at 10pm!!
