BT: Bring Down The Stars by Emma Scott {Book Blog Tour}

I fell for Connor Drake. I didn’t want to; I fought against it, but I fell in love with him anyway. With his words. With his poetry. With him. The gentleness and beauty of his soul that speaks directly to mine. He writes as if he can feel my heart, hear its cadence and compose the exact right lyrics to accompany every beat and flow. I’m in love with Connor…so why do I feel an inexplicable pull to his best friend, Weston? Grouchy, sullen, brooding Weston Turner, who could cut you down with a look. Fiercely intelligent with a razor sharp wit and acid tongue, he’s the exact opposite of Connor in every way, and yet there’s electricity in the air between us. The thorny barbs Weston wraps around himself can’t keep me away. But the more time I spend with these men, the more tangled and confused my emotions become. When they both sign up for the Army Reserves during a time of increasing strife in the Middle East, I fear I’ll never unravel my own heart that sometimes feels as if it will tear straight down the middle…for both of them. ********** Bring Down the Stars is an emotional, angst-filled novel of unrequited love by bestselling author, Emma Scott, and is inspired by the classic tale, Cyrano de Bergerac. (Roxanne) It is Book I in the Beautiful Hearts Duet, coming this summer. Book II, Long Live the Beautiful Hearts, to be released a few weeks later. #lovetriangle #confusedhearts #notamenage

I took the cement stairs into the library and entered the cool, hushed confines of the main reading room. None of the long mahogany desks with green-shaded lamps were empty. One of the university clubs had taken over two-thirds of the space. The rest of the tables were filled with students like me, trying to get a head start their course load. I finally found an empty seat at the end of a table, opposite a blond guy engrossed in reading. His open backpack spilled books and papers into what I hoped could be my table territory. “Excuse me,” I whispered. “Can I…?” He looked up, his expression vaguely hostile. Piercing blue-green eyes set in a stunningly handsome, if angular, face met mine. High cheekbones, sharp chin and long straight nose. He looked chiseled out of smooth stone at first glance, then his features softened for a moment as his gaze swept over me. Something like recognition lit up his eyes, and I could see the gears of his brain turning as he studied, analyzed, and then came to a conclusion. Not a good one, I guessed, because his expression hardened again. “Yeah, sure,” he muttered. He stood up, leaning his tall, slender frame over the table to corral the books back into his pack. “Thanks,” I said, thinking if he wasn’t a basketball player or a runner, he was a model. All right, girl, get a grip. I sat, cracked my textbook and settled in to read. I wasn’t through two pages when the words blurred to nonsensical gibberish and my skin prickled with the sensation of being watched. I glanced up, straight into the ocean eyes of the guy across from me. A million thoughts swirled in their soft depths before they quickly glanced down. He slouched lower in his chair, disappearing behind his book—the collected poems of Walt Whitman. Part of me wanted to melt. Good lord, a hot guy reading poetry? I was only human. And this is how you wound up with a broken heart in the first place. I must’ve been frowning at the book because the guy held it up and said, “Not a fan?” I blinked back to reality. “No,” I said. “I mean, yes. I love Whitman. And poetry in general. I just... Never mind.” He regarded me a long moment, then slowly closed Whitman and picked up Atlas Shrugged from his short stack of books. “Ugh, that’s even worse,” I muttered without thinking, and then shook my head. “God, sorry, I left my filter at home. Don’t listen to me.” His lip curled. “Is there anything in my collection you approve of?” A hot, smart asshole, I thought. Game on. “Sorry,” I said. “I’m not in a good mood today and it’s making me forget my manners. I’ll leave you to read your capitalist propaganda in peace.” The guy’s eyebrows shot up, disappearing under the blond hair that fell across his brow. “Not a fan of Rand either?” He smirked knowingly. “No, of course you aren’t.” My blood heated at his flippant tone. “What’s that supposed to mean?” The guy nodded at my textbook—Global Responsibility and the Third-World Hunger Epidemic—and shrugged, as if that answered everything. “Oh.” I frowned. “Well… yes. I mean, Rand’s point of view is purely capitalist and mine isn’t. Not by a long shot.” The student sitting to my right exchanged glances with the girl sitting across from him. Then both packed up their books and left. “We’re being disruptive,” I said to my across-table neighbor. “We need to stop talking now.” He leaned back in his chair, his eyes intent on me. “So what’s your point of view?” “My what?” “You said your point of view isn’t capitalist.” He raised a brow. “So what is it?” “Humanist, I suppose. Since you asked. I think everyone, regardless of race, creed, income-level, or sex should be granted the same shot as anyone else.” I raised a brow at him. “But you don’t?” “Are you asking me or telling me?” he said with a slight chuckle. “Since we’re tossing labels around, I’m a realist.” He held up his book. “And not a fan of Rand either.” “You’re not?” I leaned back too, crossing my arms. “Are you just messing with me or what?” “Maybe,” he said. “What do you care what I think anyway?” My mouth fell slack. “I don’t. Thanks for reminding me.” “No problem.” “Wow, you’re rude.” “That’s the word on the street.” “I can see why.” I lifted my own book up to signal conversation over, but my eyes wouldn’t focus. I could feel the hum of his presence like a field of electrical wires, getting under my skin and infiltrating my thoughts. The buzz went beyond distraction. It felt like a challenge had been laid down. And I never walked away from a challenge. I lowered my book to see the guy’s glance hide behind his book again. “Well?” I demanded. “Well what?” Why are you watching me? “Why are you reading Ayn Rand if you don’t like her either?” “Required reading for an English Lit minor.” “And your major? Let me guess, pre-law.” “God, no,” he said. I raised my eyebrows but he offered nothing more. “Are you going to make me run through Amherst’s list of majors until I guess which one is yours?” “Yes,” he said. “Alphabetically, please.” A laugh burst out of me against my will, and the guy almost smiled. Every one of his hard angles softened. “Economics,” he said. “But I don’t know what I’m doing with it.” “That feels like the most honest thing you’ve said to me so far,” I said. “And that’s important to you?” “Yes,” I said, my laughter dying away as I remembered Mark and that girl, naked in the bed I’d slept in just the night before. “Honesty is very important.” He lifted one shoulder. “You don’t agree?” I asked. “Being honest is sometimes mistaken for being rude.” “You must be really honest,” I said. Again, he almost smiled. “Must be.” Satisfied that I’d held my own against this beautiful but hostile member of the opposite sex, I went back to my book…for eight entire seconds before my skin started prickling again. The electric hum of his attention was impossible to ignore. When I looked up this time, he didn’t look away but cleared his throat. “I’m Weston Turner.”

Holy shit!!! How am I going to review this book with my heart laying broken on the ground? I'm in pieces right now. Emma Scott is one of those writers who makes you feel every emotion a thousand times over. She is a master at the angsty love story but I was still surprised by this book. I never saw the heartache coming.

Abby is an Economics major that wants to do something good for humanity. She's petitioned Harvard to let her make up her won major when she goes to grad school. She's done with love after her boyfriend of two years humiliated her by cheating. But Abby is a hopeless romantic and believes in love so fully, she can't stop the attraction she feels for Connor.

Connor is a rich, intoxicating guy that smiles all the time. You can't help but want to be near him. Then there's his best friend Weston who never smiles, is always brooding about something but Abby loves their conversations.

It is impossible to put into words the affect this book had on me. I was lost from page 1. I'm going to be holding my breath until the conclusion of this duet comes out. For now, I'll just remember the story of Abby, Conner and Weston with vivid detail that the amazing author Emma Scott brought to life for me.

Making a Murderer meets Scandal in this story of police corruption, family secrets, and illicit affairs from bestselling author K.A. Tucker, celebrated for her “propulsive plot twists and searing seduction” (USA TODAY).

Noah Marshall has known a privileged and comfortable life thanks to his mother, the highly decorated chief of the Austin Police Department. But all that changes the night she reveals a skeleton that's been rattling in her closet for years, and succumbs to the guilt of destroying an innocent family's life. Reeling with grief, Noah is forced to carry the burden of this shocking secret.

Gracie Richards wasn't born in a trailer park, but after fourteen years of learning how to survive in The Hollow, it's all she knows anymore. At least here people don't care that her dad was a corrupt Austin cop, murdered in a drug deal gone wrong. Here, she and her mother are just another family struggling to survive...until a man who clearly doesn't belong shows up on her doorstep.

Despite their differences, Noah and Gracie are searching for answers to the same questions, and together, they set out to uncover the truth about the Austin Police Department's dark and messy past. But the scandal that emerges is bigger than they bargained for, and goes far higher up than they ever imagined.

Complex, gritty, sexy, and thrilling, Keep Her Safe solidifies K.A. Tucker's reputation as one of today's most talented new voices in romantic suspense.
(Goodreads)

K.A. Tucker's Keep Her Safe is a gritty, dark and emotionally engaging romantic suspense story, that is definitely (and surprisingly) more suspense and mystery than heart-pounding romance. And it works really well this way.

If you're a fan of Tucker's books, you're probably expecting a steamy and sexy leg-shaker of a book, and rightfully so, because Keep Her Safe is all those things and more. At the same time though you might be surprised when you learn that this is probably the most slow-burning of all of the romances she's ever written. Personally, I really loved that.

Are you familiar with the cop TV drama, Shades of Blue? The one starring Jennifer Lopez? I was reminded of that show while reading Keep Her Safe. It almost felt like if Shades of Blue had a spin-off series about Harlee Santos' daughter, it would be something like Keep Her Safe (or at least it would feel similar, what with all the secrets and corruption, and dangerous lies). Personally, I have enjoyed watching Shades of Blue (Lopez is amazing in it!), and so I also really enjoyed reading Keep Her Safe. I guess it's safe to say that cop stories dealing with corruption, secrets, high-stakes family dramas and devastating consequences of one's decisions are really my cuppa tea.

As for the relationship between the main characters - Noah and Gracie - I must say I wasn't really into it initially. There was no insta-love and like I said, the romance was on the slow-burning (almost slow-simmering) side, but for whatever reason I wasn't feeling it until about 2/3 of the book. That's not to say, I didn't end up rooting for them, because of course I did - it's K.A. Tucker's book after all, how can you not root for the couple? It just took me a bit longer to get there than with her other books.

Overall, if you've enjoyed K.A. Tucker's previous stories and if you're into romantic suspense stories with jaw-dropping mysteries at the core, you will most definitely enjoy Keep Her Safe. It's quite an addictive page turner!

New York Times bestselling author Molly McAdams delivers another heart-wrenching, emotional novel in her Thatch series…

After her first love was ripped from her grasp four years earlier, Charlie Easton was sure she would never be able to trust anyone with the shattered pieces of her heart again. That is, until Deacon Carver forces himself into her life, and makes those pieces swirl in chaos. But Charlie doesn't know how to let him in… until a stranger stumbles upon a notebook filled with her innermost secrets, and shows her how.

Deacon Carver is known for sleeping his way through the town of Thatch, as well as the surrounding cities—something he used to take pride in. But that persona has haunted Deacon ever since he decided to leave that life behind for the girl he wants more than anything: Charlie Easton.

But when another girl falls into Deacon's life, allowing him to be himself without judgment for his past, will their conversations hinder his relationship with Charlie … even if he's never seen her?
(Goodreads)

Show Me How is the third installment in Molly McAdams highly praised Thatch series, and this time we are following the adventures of Charlie and Deacon, who readers already know from their appearances in the earlier books.

Charlie is struggling to let go of the past and open her heart up. She's unable to trust anyone, she's guarded and she doesn't feel quite ready to fall in love again. Similarly, Deacon is not quite sure how to part with his "player" mask. He has a certain reputation in town, and well, let's say it's not a very good one. He, too, seems unable to get over his past - he's carrying the weight of his heartbreaker/player label.

Now, what you need to know is that I haven't read the previous two books in the series. When I first started reading Show Me How, I wasn't even aware of the fact that this was book three. Honestly, I still wouldn't know any better, if I hadn't looked it up, because Show Me How reads like a stand-alone. I know now that all or most of the characters appear in the earlier volumes, and I also know that Deacon and Charlie were both introduced to the fans of the series before.

That being said, I breezed through this volume without stopping or ever wondering why something was happening. Molly wrote this book in a way, that doesn't make you feel like you're missing any details at all. I found myself completely immersed in the story and really intrigued by everything that was happening. Show Me How was a very emotional read to me, as I could relate to certain parts of the story. My heart was pounding fast during certain scenes, I was frustrated and ready to scream during others, but overall, I came out of reading this book feeling very satisfied and happy.

Molly's writing pulls you in right from the beginning. She created characters that feel real and are easy to connect with (I especially loved Charlie's son, Keith). Neither Deacon nor Charlie are without flaws, but it's their flaws and struggles that make them so incredibly easy to relate to and care about. As I was reading about Charlie's past, I was really able to feel her pain and understand her reluctance to open up. She's a shy person to begin with, but after everything she's been through, even the most easy-going person would close-up and become guarded.

I loved the tension in this book, the chemistry, the slow-burning romance and the great ending. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a heart-wrenching, harrowing romance story - it's one not to be missed!

About the author:

Molly grew up in California but now lives in the oh-so-amazing state of Texas with her husband, daughter, and fur babies. When she's not diving into the world of her characters, some of her hobbies include hiking, snowboarding, traveling, and long walks on the beach … which roughly translates to being a homebody with her hubby and dishing out movie quotes. She has a weakness for crude-humored movies and fried pickles, and loves curling up in a fluffy comforter during a thunderstorm ... or under one in a bathtub if there are tornadoes. That way she can pretend they aren't really happening.

Book #3 in the Bennett Family Series: Pippa and Eric

Eric Callahan is a powerful man, and his sharp business sense has earned him the nickname ‘the shark.’ Yet under the strict façade is a man who loves his daughter and would do anything for her. When he and his daughter move to San Francisco for three months, he has one thing in mind: expanding his business on the West Coast. As a widower, Eric is not looking for love. He focuses on his company, and his daughter.

Until he meets Pippa Bennett. She captivates him from the moment he sets eyes on her, and what starts as unintentional flirting soon spirals into something neither of them can control.

Pippa Bennett knows she should stay away from Eric Callahan. After going through a rough divorce, she doesn’t trust men anymore. But something about Eric just draws her in. He has a body made for sin and a sense of humor that matches hers. Not to mention that seeing how adorable he is with his daughter melts Pippa’s walls one by one.

The chemistry between them is undeniable, but the connection that grows deeper every day that has both of them wondering if love might be within their reach.

When it’s time for Eric and his daughter to head back home, will he give up on the woman who has captured his heart, or will he do everything in his power to remain by her side?

Pippa Bennett has been a fun loving character in all of the Bennett's brothers book, but getting to know her was beyond exhilarating. I just fell in love with Pippa right from the beginning of this book. She's one of the older Bennett children and is usually the one found taking care of others, but who will ever take care of her? Pippa is funny, affectionate and easy to love but she isn't confident in herself because of her past.

Here is a woman who has been through a lot when it comes to love, married to man that never loved her and only wanted her money, she believes herself to be unlovable. She isn't sure love is meant for her even though her heart urns for happily ever after.

In walks the sexy, hot and tantalizing Eric Callahan and he is out to prove Pippa wrong. But Eric has his own demons when it comes to love and a beautiful daughter to raise which is his main focus besides his business. Will Eric be able to draw the line at flirting with Pippa or will his desires finally make him reckless in the matter of his heart? Eric is a hard nosed business man of a huge multi location jewelry business and he doesn't have time for love. He prides himself on being the "shark" in his work place and not letting matters of the heart get to him.

This was by far my favorite book in the Bennett series so far. All these books can be read as a standalone, although in my personal opinion you are MISSING OUT BIG TIME if you don't curl up and read the whole series. The Bennett family dynamics are incredible. Layla really brings each and every one of these stories to life for the reader. I can't get enough of this family or Layla Hagen's magnificent writing style.

The star ballerina finally marries the major league baseball player and the truth about Linc and Tally—his being her air and she being his water—becomes clear after the couple finally realize that their love is all that matters.

But that was the first day. The day they said, “I do." The day the demons seemed to leave them alone, at least, for a little while. Nevertheless, there were other days, when all the lies of the past and their ways of coping with their fears caught up to them.

And, this is that story.

Just a few of Katherine Owen's quotes from "The Truth in Lies" Series. ***SWOON***
The ending is coming. I can feel it. I don’t know if I can take it this time. But then again, I say that every time and yet, every time I take it. And, I come back to her again for more. I will take whatever time I can get with her. I will do that for a lifetime. I will. I know that much about myself. She is my water. I can never get enough of her, and it appears that I will die trying to love her, to keep her, to hold her with me, even though our time together seems to evaporate so swiftly. It slips through our fingers so damn fast that we don’t even have time to savor it when we’re together.
Here’s the truth: I am the female version of a heartbreaker. The one that everyone says is too dedicated to ballet, too self-involved to ever care about anyone else besides herself. I’m the rebel. The bad twin. I am Tally—the loner, the party of one. The love and leave ‘em prototype. Heartless. That is me. I have no time for romance, flowers, or relationships. I like one-night stands with plenty of sex and no promises of a future. I like the lies I tell. I’m comfortable in telling them…most of the time. This is me.
You can't really hear heartbreak. It is remarkably silent but excruciating all the same.

Damn! Damn! Damn! The third book in the "Truth In Lies" series had me on the edge of my seat almost the whole time. Just when I thought my beloved Tally and Linc were going to get a break, WHAM they were crashing into yet another collision course. Tally and Linc have the ultimate love story. It is all about the "REAL" in this love story. There are NO happily ever afters. No sweet kisses. No prince charming to come and save the day. There is just Tally and Linc begging the universe to not mess with them yet again.....

Katherine Owen is not your average writer. She has earned the title I now give her of my all time favorite author through many books, characters and stories. Her stories all have one fundamental truth in them. They are real. Her characters are all flawed, usually severely so. They make mistakes. Big ones. They tell lies. The way they are written sets the reader up for emotions they have never felt before. However, you might just find yourself realizing that these characters are some of the realest ones you've ever read about.

This last book in "Truth In Lies" is no different and in fact it might be worse. It is a tough read. But a read that is WELL WORTH the time and energy it takes to get through. There is NO relationship you've ever read like Linc and Tally's. These characters could not be more real to me. In fact, I dare you to find a book with more passion between two characters. There are NONE. These characters are originals. You will walk away from this book wondering how you survived without knowing Linc and Tally up close and personal before now.

"If you believe in fairy tales and happy endings,
and you want to stop right here and bask in the wonderment and joy of it all, please do.
If you want to know the rest of our story,
you need to take a deep breath
and tell yourself that everything will be okay,
that everything works out,
and life happens,
and in the end
love is all you need.
Someone has to tell you these things,
just like someone had to tell me.
All I know is that the truth never dies,
and it does set you free, whether you want it to or not.
And in the end? All you have is love.
Love is all there is."
~ Talia Landon Presley

WARNING: You must read book one and two in this series before devouring this one. The true heart of the story must be felt from the very first book. Otherwise you won't know all that Tally and Linc go through and then how can you truly fall in love with them? So read this series in order. These are NOT stand alones.

New city. New life. At least, that’s what nineteen-year-old Jen Harrison believes. On the surface, she’s living her dream: dancing in a prestigious dance company in Paris. But her sister’s death and the mistakes she’s tried to bury haunt her. She’s become a pro at hiding who she truly is, and she definitely doesn’t want a guy to derail her, but a one night-stand she can do. Nothing more. She definitely doesn’t plan to see the sexy stranger who made her laugh for the first time in years ever again.

Girls don’t walk away from Lucas Wills. Bad boy turned rock star, he’s got his share of groupies. Always upfront, he doesn’t promise fake tomorrows because love can destroy everything. Been there, done that. His ex not only lied to him, she stomped on his heart, used him to become famous, and almost ruined him. So, waking up alone after a night beyond his wildest imagination with a girl he just met shouldn’t upset him, shouldn’t inspire one of the saddest songs he’s ever written, shouldn’t make him want to chase after her.

When Jen, the one-night stand who got away, auditions to be a dancer in Lucas' next music video, they can’t stop their growing attraction. But Jen’s secrets and his ex could shatter the careers they tried so hard to build and their hearts…they will have to decide what’s more important and if love is worth the fight.

It was love at first page for me. I have been a HUGE fan of Elodie's since I read her first book "One, Two, Three (Broken Dreams:Natalya"s Story #1)" Elodie writes with passion and she grabs the reader into her stories very quickly.

Jen and Lucas had one night together and didn't plan on seeing one another ever again. Well, fate works in a funny way because Jen's friend tells her about an audition that happens to be for Lucas' band. The two meet again and Lucas starts feeling something deeper. Never has a one-night stand made him want to spend more time together. But Jen is different somehow and he just can't get this girl out of his head. It might cost him a lot but he doesn't care. He has to see her again.

Jen has a sad story before she meets Lucas which makes her an interesting character to read about. Her back story makes it very easy for the reader to feel for her. Jen is tough outside but inside she is sad and withdrawn. Lucas also has a past he'd rather not talk about. The two characters make for a very good story.

This book was short and sweet but the author still manages to put passion, imagery and feeling into her characters and her writing. Another great read by Elodie.
