Throwback Thursday Book Review: Born of Silence by Serrilyn Kenyon

Some of you may know that I originally had my own blog, Beauty but a Funny Girl, prior to joining Bookish (now Bookish Lifestyle). I was thinking the other day about all those reviews I left behind when I transferred and thought they should get some love too - no matter how badly written and newbie they come off! So I present to you: Throwback Thursday Reviews! Every once in a while I'll post an old review from Beauty but a Funny Girl, unedited in terms of content, with the exception of any spelling or grammatical mistakes. It's definitely going to be fun and interesting to see how my tastes and writing style have changed over the years!

Where to get:

In a universe where corruption and deception rule all aspects of life, sparks of rebellion threaten to ignite . . .

As the Resistance leader, Zarya Starska's only goal is to topple the government that destroyed her entire family and left her penniless. Her biggest asset is a mysterious man known only as Kere. But Kere has a dark secret. Born into a world that is as privileged as it is corrupt, his real name is Darling Cruel-and he is heir to the government Zarya wants to overthrow. No one has ever seen the real man behind the legend. No one except Zarya. But when she allows a weapon he designed to be used against his beloved sister, all bets are off. Betrayed by the Resistance, Darling's goal is not only to reign, but to kill every Resistance member he can find. Zarya must stop Darling's reign of terror, but can she reach past his insanity to restore the hero who once fought by her side?

I just can't get enough of Sherrilyn Kenyon! This is by far my favorite book from The League series. Character are very well developed, plot it well thought out, and (of course) everything comes beautifully full circle in the end. What's not to love?

Darling's story is touching and full of horror - then again, name a hero from any of Kenyon's books that doesn't have an awful past? At the same time, you laugh with the characters, fell their pain, and become quite attached to new characters while falling deeper under the spell of the old characters. Whom all play a rather large part in Darling's story as well.

During the last 10% (I know this for a fact, thanks Kindle!) I was audibly gasping and exclaiming out load so often that my boyfriend thought I'd lost my mind. This book - ending especially - is truly going to change the way these characters live their lives and I can't wait for the next one!
