What happens when you uncover years of secrets and find out everything you thought to be true was a lie?
Drew Stevens finds her world turned upside down when her parents are brutally murdered. Soon after, she learns she inherited a property in Bar Harbor, Maine from recently deceased grandparents that she believed had died when she was a baby. Drew travels north to settle her grandparents’ estate, but finds more questions than answers as the truth starts unraveling. What she didn’t expect to find was Saint, whose reputation was as tumultuous as his past. But the very thing that brought them together was the same thing that kept them emotionally caged. With Saint’s scars so deep and Drew’s so fresh, can the pair heal from their painful wounds or will they be pulled beneath the darkness of their pasts?
"Something was pulling me to Maine. I needed to touch the house, to be in the presence of this secret that my mom had withheld my whole life. I needed to connect Mom's tales to their source. I needed to feel closer to her. I hoped Maine would give me that.
So you know him, then? I asked. Saint? he laughed, sarcastic and filled with bitterness. We went to school together. he's a few years older than me. Our local celebrity--at least with the tourists. Girls go after him like he's got something they've never seen. With everyone else, he pretty much keeps to himself... nowadays, anyway.
No more leaving, no more slammed doors. For either of us. I want you, Drew, but I want you here. In Maine. No words came out of me. Just a soft, sweet sigh that sounded just like a moan. It probably was..my lungs had emptied; my muscles had tightened as his body pressed against mine. His eyes went to my lips, his thumb parted them. he licked his, teasing me, showing me what he was able to do. Tell me you want me, too.
I am a fast reader. Being a fast reader means sometimes I skip the parts where the story seems to detail too much just to get to the good part. With this book? That was not an option. Every line held my attention. Every page made me want more. Every twist and turn captivated me till I came to the climatic ending. This is my first book by Marni Mann but I will tell you something, it sure won't be my last. I can not wait to pick up more books by this author.
Drew just lost her parents in a vicious attack in their home in Florida. She was lost and wasn't looking for anything except time to mend her brokenness. Then she got a letter that said she inherited a house from her grandparents who were supposed to be dead according to what she knew anyway. So off she goes to Maine, the place her mom grew up but never talked about. She finds out much more than she bargained for and she learns some things that shape her into the new person she needs to become.
I really enjoyed this book. This story is told from Drew's perspective, but the other characters she encounters along the way play a significant role in the plot as well. Brady is the guy who is friendly to Drew right away. He quickly becomes someone she feels she can trust. His dad Shane is also a great guy and that's a good thing because they are the men doing the renevations on her grandparents house making it ready to sell. She immediately decides to make these changes to the house so she can cut ties in Maine and move back to her home in Florida. I mean she can't stay in a town she knows nothing about.
As the story unfolds, the reader is pulled in to Drew's thoughts and feelings as if you yourself were living it. It feels quite real. I just couldn't get over how well I related to this character. The sadness and problems Drew went through captivated me. She seemed so lost and didn't have a friend to call her own. And then there is Saint. The tough rugged man who she meets on the pier who just does something to her everytime he speaks. But Saint is a big mystery. Brady can't stand him and her new friend Rae won't really say much, but Drew knows there is more to this man than meets the eye. She is determined to get inside his head and find out what makes him so quiet, withdrawn and angry with everyone. But why should it matter if she is leaving soon anyway?
This story was the perfect blend of romance, intrigue and emotion. I felt the author did a great job at getting into the story quickly and occupying the reader with an amazing cast of characters. I would recommend this new adult romance to anyone who enjoys a memorable story told in perfect detail.
