We live. We die. Is there anything more? Jenna Barton is about to find out. After moving to the coastal North Carolina town of Parson's Cove, Jenna has unwittingly stepped into the middle of a mystery involving a missing child.
Unfortunately, the predator is still on the loose and Jenna has become his new obsession. With a little luck and a bit of paranormal help, Jenna might survive.
People had no idea how vulnerable they made themselves and he wasn't above taking advantage of their follies. Standing in the darkness, just beyond the patio, he had a perfect view into the kitchen through the large picture window. His special gift~he moved through the darkness, making his way to his treasure. Like a mother, the darkness reached out and embraced him, surrounding him in a morose cocoon.
Well, well, well. Interesting, it seems that she can feel me too. His fiendish mind gloried in the possibilities. It had been a long time since he had the pleasure of a game. He moved away, slinking through the shadow.
And so I finish my account of the events surrounding the death of my daughter, Rebecca Thomas with a warning. Silas Wilson is still there, somewhere between this life and the next. Beware!
He stood in the shadows, lost in the pleasure of her suffering. Even after all this time, he could feel it~ her heart breaking~ and he was glad. She was his as she had always been. They were bound, bound for eternity.
Bone Chilling. Nail Biting. Thriller.
This book came along right when I needed something fresh to read. I have always stayed away from books of the creepy nature in the past because to be perfectly honest, I scare easily. Although this book definitely went over my approved scare meter, I really enjoyed it. I was unable to put the book down in so many parts that I found myself reading chapter upon chapter hoping for a break in the story where I could lay it down.
Jenna is your typical teen girl that just moved to a new town and is trying to make friends. She quickly meets a group of friends that like her right away. However, this one guy Chase is just rude to her for no good reason. She can't figure him out and doesn't really want to try at first either. Little does Jenna know that the house she is now living in with her mom is the sight where a little girl Sarah just vanished from many years earlier. Sarah was playing in the backyard when her mom turned around for a second and just like that Sarah was gone. The mystery surrounding Sarah's disappearance and the man that took her is bone chilling and non-stop excitement too.
This story had two plots going on at once. While we learn of Jenna and her friends, we also learn about the shadow and how he came to be the scary monster he is today. Jumping between two story lines can be quite frustrating for the reader because many times you are unable to understand or get how the author is portraying these switches. However, D.S. McKnight did a superb job of maneuvering back and forth and keeping the reader focused on the next event that was coming up.
There were many different splits and turns in this novel, not enough to get you confused but enough to keep the reader wanting more. I was excited to learn that this is the first book in a series as I love the characters that were portrayed in this book and I would be excited to read more about them in the future. I think the story was left with closure but I still had many questions that could definitely be answered with a sequel. So I say "Bring It"
I found this novel to be extremely unique in plot lines. This was NOT AT ALL your typical paranormal novel. It was just SO MUCH BETTER. I also felt the author did a great job at moving the story along without rushing it the way some novels do. Both Chase and Jenna were so likable that the reader could feel what they were feeling just like we were there with them. I would recommend this book to para-Lovers, horror fanatics, and readers like me that just enjoy a great story told flawlessly.
