A SACRED OATH
A FALLEN ANGEL
A FORBIDDEN LOVE

Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.
(Goodreads)

Up until this very moment, I'd been telling myself I didn't care what Patch thought of me. But right now, I knew it was a lie. Even though it would probably come back to haunt me, I was curious enough about Patch to go almost anywhere with him.
Patch accelerated onto the highway, and my thighs squeezed around him. I hoped I was the only one who noticed.
I didn't move. There was a glint to his eye that made me think I should be frightened of him...and I was. But that fright was equal part allure. There was something extremely unsettling about being near him. In his presence, I didn't trust myself.
Patch lunged clockwise. I ran away from him, halting when he did. While we were at a standstill again, his eyes locked on mine, almost as if he was trying to glean my next move from them.

There was a lot of hype going around with this one and yes I am a little late to the starting line with it but I got there. Thing is I am glad because despite the hype I think that the start is a little on the slow side. With thousands of raving reviewers now screaming at the screen about how wrong I am bare with me. I didn't say that I didn't like it, I just said it was a slow start. The book itself ended up being enjoyable I just had to hang in there to get to that point.

The plot was both amazing and stubborn. There was a constant forward movement but for the first half it was a slow movement. Fitzpatrick did a phenomenal job with the world building there is no doubt about that. A clear as day picture was painted with every page and every step the characters took but to an extent I could have dealt with a little less of that and a little more action. As far as complaints go that is fairly minor if you think about it and just shows that the author took time to put down the roots for her story and characters.

How to go about discussing Nora. She was not weak or dependant upon having a guy in her life and actually before Patch walked into her life she hadn't even really considered it. Nora had a mind of her own and didn't really hold back, now that's not saying she said whatever came to mind and had no problem hurting people. No, Nora didn't hold back when it came to questioning things but at then there were times that she seemed not to ask the right questions but you can't completely blame her for that, no one is perfect. Like all good characters though Nora grew and I look forward to her much more in the next novel.

Now I totally see the allure of Patch. He has the tall, dark, handsome and mysterious thing going for him all the way. He is also the source of virtually every plot twist in the book. His witty and humorous remarks that infuriated Nora and cast that uncertainty was perfect. He wasn't the type of bad boy that did whatever it took to get what he wanted but more the guy that you never quite know his intentions. That being said I will admit wondering and flipping back and forth with the decision myself. Patch is really the type of guy people are going to love or not, he's not for everyone but I am in.

The romance between Nora and Patch was anything but immediate. Was there a spark? Absolutely. But beyond the spark and the physical attraction there was nothing. Nora all but despised Patch and the arrogant things that came out of his mouth. More than that she was scared because all of the things he seemed to know that he should have had no way of knowing. I will admit that I do agree with some of the reviews that I read long ago suggesting a little Edward/Bella romance going. Not that it is identical but there is definitely a little of the "I shouldn't but I will" going on. Lucky for Patch and Nora I am okay with this.

As far as first books go I wasn't blown out of the water with this one but I fully admit that by the end I was hooked. Fitzpatrick has a wonderful writing and I understand completely why people have fallen in love with this series. I am looking forward to seeing the development between Patch and Nora in the following books. If you are a lover of Angel stories then this one is not to be missed, it's a little bit of sweet and evil.

TBR Read-A-Long: Hourglass by Myra McEntire - Final Discussion Post [Chapters 41-56]

Hello and WELCOME to Hourglass FOURTH and FINAL DISCUSSION POST!

Thank you to all who have signed up for our fifth Read-A-Long this year, I hope you guys enjoyed reading Divergent, DeliriumWill Grayson, Will Grayson and Masque Of The Red Death with us and are having just as much (or more!) fun with Hourglass! Today we'll be discussing chapters 41-56!

Before we move on to the discussion questions Rachelia and I would like to remind you that the first two discussion posts were hosted by the wonderful Rachelia over at @BookishComforts. You can find the first one HERE and the second one HERE - feel free to click over and catch up! The third discussion post was hosted by yours truly on Bookish and you can find it HERE.

“I love you - broken in pieces, whole, however. No matter what the future brings, no matter what was in the past.”
“If he wasn't already holding my heart in the palm of his hand, I would have taken it out and given it to him right then.”
“Would you like to try this again then, another time?"
"I'd very much like to try this again, another time." He grinned, but it carried a touch of sadness. "I'll give you a second to...uh...fix your hair."
"My hair?"
"I'll give you a second to fix my hair. I mean, I'll give you a second while I go fix my hair." He let out a sigh. "I mean,I'll see you downstairs."
He turned to walk out of the room, but unfortunately, he forgot to open the door first.
I managed to hold my laughter until he got it right.”
Now, onto the discussion!

1) Do you think the time-travel theme was handled well? Personally, I had a few issues with it and thought some aspects of the plot were rather confusing. Why do you think Emerson had to be accompanied by Kaleb's dad to go back and save Michael (her ability is time travel to the past)? Couldn't she just go alone? How come - if Michael died in the past - it didn't disrupt the time-continuum, since there were now two bodies in the lab? Finally, the chicken-or-egg situation: Emerson from the future travels to the past to give Michael the formula, but present Emerson learned about the formula through Michael - so what was first?

2) What did you think of the love triangle? Both Michael and Kaleb seem to be really into Emerson, who in turn appears to be at least slightly confused about her own feelings. Do you think what Michael saw in Emerson's future (Emerson being taken care of by Kaleb) might still come true? Or was the future once again altered by the fact that Emerson saved Michael's life?

3) The big mystery behind Jack's character was revealed and Emerson got her real memories of the accident back. Jack possesses the ability to take away and give back memories. Do you think it's a useful talent? If you could wipe away one or more of your own painful/traumatic memories, would you do that?

4) What did you think of the conclusion? Were you satisfied with the ending?

These are all the questions we have for you today! Please leave your answers in the comments below. Feel free to break them apart (1 comment per 1 answer!), or omit the questions you do not feel like answering! I am looking forward to discussing Hourglass with you guys!

Amazingly Broken by Jordin Williams (Review + Interview)

A quick note from Evie: I debated long and hard whether I was going to post this on the blog today. We received Amazingly Broken for review long before the plagiarism issue came up and Debbie (our Chick Lit expert) agreed to work with Jordin Williams. She interviewed the author and wrote a review, and while I obviously do not support plagiarism or authors who plagiarise other authors' work, I do appreciate my co-bloggers and value the time they spend reviewing books for Bookish. That being said, please keep in mind that this post is more of an appreciation of Debbie's time and hard work than anything else. Plagiarism is wrong.

New Adult and No cliffhanger!

Life threw Elana a curveball...

Her mother died in Iowa and Elana was left to fend for herself with an abusive and drunken father who couldn't care less about her well being. After years of heartache and pain she graduated from high school and moved to Florida to go to college with her best friend Tiffany.

A new beginning...

That’s where she met Jaxon. He was everything she didn’t need. He was a cocky, tattooed, and a beer drinking musclehead. He was the type of guy that she normally would have avoided given her circumstances but when he offers her a bed to sleep on she can't say no.

She never thought that she would discover they weren't much different from one another and that he had his own secrets and scars he didn’t want revealed to anyone...
(Goodreads)

“You know you're not a cancer or a disease, you’re a cure. You're curing me everyday"
“That was the best shower ever," I smiled at him. "You're welcome in here any time."
"I think aggressive Jaxon is awesome and hot too" I said, kissing him.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. Amazingly Broken is full of passion, desire, new beginnings, old endings and finding out who you are and who you are meant to be. From the very start, I knew I'd love this book. The main characters of Jaxon and Elana come forcefully off the page and engulf you into their worlds. You route for them, scream at them and cry with them.

The story is told from the viewpoint of Elana and how she leaves home and comes to Florida to go to school. She leaves behind a father who abuses her and a sadness since her mother's death that she isn't sure will ever leave her. Her plan is to move in with her best friend and sleep on the couch till a dorm room becomes available. The story takes a huge turn from there and keeps going till the very last pages. The attraction between Jaxon and Elana is electric from the first scene they are in together. All in all I am a HUGE fan of this new adult novel by Jordin Williams. I give it four and half stars. There is also some sexy loving in this book, but not X rated. Just the right amount to get your panties in a twist.

1. How did you come up for the idea of “Amazingly Broken”?

I took all favorite book boyfriends and made Jaxon. I used my past for Elana. Then I started writing and tried to that it makes sense they are together.

2. What inspires you to keep writing with all the rejection writers receive?

Well, I'm a ghostwriter so I have to write for money. Then I decided to try and write my own story for fun.

3. What are your favorite books?

Oh gosh, Easy, Rule, Wallbanger

4. What author inspired you the most?

H.M. Ward! She's doing amazing without a publisher.

5. What is your writing process?

Every morning I would write.

NOW, if you want to find out what the whole plagiarism thing is all about, I recommend reading up about it here: DEAR AUTHOR.

Personally, I am appalled by this whole situation and very disgusted with Jordin Williams (or whatever HIS name is, cause according to Jaime McGuire - one of the victims of Williams' plagiarism - Jordin is in fact male.

Bookish does NOT support Williams and/or Amazingly Broken in any way. Plagiarism is disgusting and people making money of other people's hard work should be punished severely.

Protecting humans from dangerous magical creatures is all in a day’s work for a faerie training to be a guardian. Seventeen-year-old Violet Fairdale knows this better than anyone—she’s about to become the best guardian the Guild has seen in years. That is, until a cute human boy who can somehow see through her faerie glamor follows her into the Fae realm. Now she’s broken Guild Law, a crime that could lead to her expulsion.

The last thing Vi wants to do is spend any more time with the boy who got her into this mess, but the Guild requires that she return Nate to his home and make him forget everything he’s discovered of the Fae realm. Easy, right? Not when you factor in evil faeries, long-lost family members, and inconvenient feelings of the romantic kind. Vi is about to find herself tangled up in a dangerous plot—and it’ll take all her training to get out alive.

[This novel was originally published in four separate parts: Guardian,Labyrinth, Traitor and Masquerade. It includes bonus scenes at the end that were not published in the individual parts.]
(Goodreads)

“Strands of sun-bleached hair lie across his forehead, and his lips—which I may or may not have been admiring for the past half hour—are parted.”
“And you keep them in your boot in case of a fashion emergency while out on an assignment?”
“A key? Oh dear, have you been locked out of somewhere ever since?”
“‘Do you mean to tell me that I’m the only one you bestow your delightful insults upon?’ I place my hand on my chest. ‘I’m touched.’”

I'm really picky when it comes to faerie books. Sometimes they tend to bore me with all the information that goes into them, so they're usually very hit or miss for me. That said, I was a wee bit wary going into The Faerie Guardian. Which means I'm also super happy to say that this book was great. Definitely one of the better faerie books I've read.

Rachel Morgan did a great job of creating an entertaining and unique voice for her main character, Violet, from the very beginning of the book. That originally drew me in and kept me going, and everything was uphill from there.

Character Rundown:
Violet: I really liked Violet! She was smart and cautious, but she wasn't a total jerk either. She had snark and was so funny, but could take a situation seriously when it was necessary. If I were to know her in real life, we'd totally be friends. The best of friends, actually.

Nate: I saw his little thing with Violet coming from a mile away, from the moment she thought he was cute and his face was plastered to that algebra book. Nate...I don't really like him. At all. I actually kind of want to slap him. He and I will now and forever have a love/hate relationship.

Ryn: THIS IS MY BOY RIGHT HERE. He was such a jerk, but I can't help it--his character was so strong and I liked that. Plus, he was soooooo not perfect, but he...just. Goodness. This boy makes me speechless. I don't think any words I can give you will do him justice, so I'm going to leave it with what I said. If you want to know more, you seriously need to read this book.

Plot. I can honestly say I did not see it coming. I totally SHOULD have, and in hindsight, I smack myself, but I was shocked. WHAT I'm talking about, I'm not going to say, but if you've read the book you know. Kudos to Rachel Morgan for throwing me through a fire-framed loop. I swear, this story was so much fun to get into.

Romance. I am Team Ryn, in case you had not noticed. Which is completely silly, considering there isn't much reason for teams (yet?), but I'm still rooting for my boy. I wasn't much impressed with Nate &Vi's little relationship they had going. That's probably because of my opinion of Nate. But still. They had a couple sweet moments, but other than that, I felt so-so towards those two TOGETHER.

The ending. Um, there's a sequel. I must read it. Sometime soon, hopefully.

Overall, Rachel Morgan has written a fabulous faerie story that not only held my attention from cover to cover, but amused me and had me experiencing every little twist and turn in her gorgeous plot. If you want to five a story about fae a try, but are cautious (like me), this one would definitely be a good one to try for. It's funny and unpredictable, and completely hooked me. :)

TBR Read-A-Long: Hourglass by Myra McEntire - Discussion Post Three [Chapters 28-40]

Hello and WELCOME to Hourglass THIRD DISCUSSION POST!

Thank you to all who have signed up for our fifth Read-A-Long this year, I hope you guys enjoyed reading Divergent, DeliriumWill Grayson, Will Grayson and Masque Of The Red Death with us and are having just as much (or more!) fun with Hourglass! Today we'll be discussing chapters 28-40!

Before we move on to the discussion questions Rachelia and I would like to remind you that the first two discussion posts were hosted by the wonderful Rachelia over at @BookishComforts. You can find the first one HERE and the second one HERE - feel free to click over and catch up!

I'm also terribly sorry that the third discussion post is two days late! As some of you may know I am in Poland right now and I just found out that I'm pregnant! It's been pretty crazy and I just didn't get a chance to prepare the post on time: I hope you can forgive me and thank you for your patience!!!

“Hey, bro, do you think you can put Shorty back on her chain?"
I stepped forward with my hands on my hips, only slightly intimidated to find Kaleb almost eye level with me when he was seated and I was standing.
"First of all, no one is the boss of me but me. Secondly, if you ever reference my 'chain' again, I will kick your ass." I jabbed him hard in the chest with my finger. Possibly breaking it. "And thirdly, don't call me Shorty."
Kaleb sat silently for a second, his eyes wide as he looked at Michael. "Where did you get her? Can you get me one?"
I blew out a loud, frustrated sigh and dropped down beside Michael, who didn't even try to hide his smile. "You should probably apologize to Emerson."
"I am sorry." Kaleb grinned at me. "Sorry I didn't meet you first.”
“Aren't you just a knight in shining armor? ... Wherever do you keep your horse? And who scoops up the crap it leaves behind?”
“I had a dilemma. I could find absolutely no good reason to slap the girl standing in the kitchen doorway. And I really wanted one.”
Now, onto the discussion!

1) We learned that there are many different kinds of abilities. Time travel is just one of them. If you could have any ability you could imagine, what would you choose and why? How would you use your ability?

2) In chapter 29th Thomas asked Emerson if the way she feels about Michael has anything to do with why she's helping him, risking her own life. Emerson denied. Do you think she was being honest? Do you think she would feel the same about the whole time travelling business if  she wasn't so attracted to Michael?

3) The mysterious Jack is a big question mark. Not a rip but not exactly a time-traveller either. Any guesses who he really is and what his business with Emerson is?

4) Enters Kaleb - hot, swoon-worthy, charming, cocky. Do you think there's a chance Emerson will fall for him? Who do you like better - Kaleb or Michael?

These are all the questions we have for you today! Please leave your answers in the comments below. Feel free to break them apart (1 comment per 1 answer!), or omit the questions you do not feel like answering! I am looking forward to discussing Hourglass with you guys!

Meanwhile, happy reading and remember the FINAL Discussion Post for CHAPTERS 41-56 will be posted over here, @Bookish, too!

Blog Tour: Soltice by P.J. Hoover + Mega Awesome Giveaway!

CHARACTER SPOLIGHT: MELINA

Hi! P. J. Hoover here, author of the upcoming dystopian/mythology YA novel, Solstice (Tor Teen, June 18, 2013), and today is a Character Spotlight from Solstice! Character spotlights are divided into two groups: Team Myth and Team Dystopia. Up today is Melina from Team Myth!

Character: MELINA
Team: TEAM MYTH

Three Things About Melina:

1) Drop-dead gorgeous
Just look at her. Okay, here was the inspiration for Melina. Think Bo Derek back when the movie 10 came out. Awesome corn rows. Skimpy clothes. Exudes pheromones. That about sums it up.

2) Owns downtown boutique
So Melina loves anything to do with romance, and in her boutique she owns, her specialties are plants and herbs to help with anyone’s love life. It’s not magic. It’s simple herbology. You should drop in and pay her a visit.

3) Craves attention
Life always looks perfect for the pretty girl. But Melina craves attention just like anyone else. Actually more than anyone else. If all the guys’ eyes aren’t on her, then watch out. She’ll fight to get the attention she needs.
Melina was one of those characters who, though she didn’t have a ton of scenes, was nothing but fun to write. Every word that comes out of her mouth has two meanings. She’s got so much to hide.

Thanks you for reading and hope you’re enjoying the blog tour!

About Solstice:
Piper's world is dying. Each day brings hotter temperatures and heat bubbles that threaten to destroy the earth. Amid this global heating crisis, Piper lives under the oppressive rule of her mother, who suffocates her even more than the weather does. Everything changes on her eighteenth birthday, when her mother is called away on a mysterious errand and Piper seizes her first opportunity for freedom.

Piper discovers a universe she never knew existed—a sphere of gods and monsters—and realizes that her world is not the only one in crisis. While gods battle for control of the Underworld, Piper’s life spirals out of control as she struggles to find the answer to the secret that has been kept from her since birth.

Bio:
P. J. Hoover first fell in love with Greek mythology in sixth grade thanks to the book Mythology by Edith Hamilton. After a fifteen year bout as an electrical engineer designing computer chips for a living, P. J. decided to take her own stab at mythology and started writing books for kids and teens. When not writing, P. J. spends time with her husband and two kids and enjoys practicing kung fu, solving Rubik's cubes, and watching Star Trek. Her first novel for teens, Solstice (Tor Teen, June 18, 2013), takes place in a global warming future and explores the parallel world of mythology beside our own. Her middle grade novel, Tut (Tor Children's, 2014), tells the story of a young immortal King Tut, who's been stuck in middle school for over 3,000 years and must defeat an ancient enemy with the help of a dorky kid from school, a mysterious Egyptian princess, and a one-eyed cat. Jodi Marshall isn't sure how she went from normal teenager to walking disaster. One minute she's in her junior year of high school, spending time with her amazing boyfriend and her best friend. The next she's being stalked by some guy no one seems to know.
After the stranger, Alex, reveals himself, Jodi learns he's not a normal teenager and neither is she. With a kiss that kills and a touch that brings the dead back to life, Jodi discovers she's part of a branch of necromancers born under the 13th sign of the zodiac, Ophiuchus. A branch of necromancers that are descendants of Medusa. A branch of necromancers with poisoned blood writhing in their veins.

Jodi's deadly to the living and even more deadly to the deceased. She has to leave her old, normal life behind before she hurts the people she loves. As if that isn't difficult enough, Jodi discovers she's the chosen one who has to save the rest of her kind from perishing at the hands of Hades. If she can't figure out how to control her power, history will repeat itself, and her race will become extinct.
(Goodreads)

Seriously? I'd hit a deer, wrecked my car, had my school nurse die moments after I was in her office, and had been stalked by a creepy guy, and she was asking about Matt?
I turned and ran out the back door. I had to get out of there fast or I wouldn't be able to make myself leave. If Mom had seen me or called my name, that would've been it for me. I would've lost my nerve and given into staying. That would've been selfish and stupid.
"I saw Medusa. The real Medusa. Or her spirit, I think. She spoke to me." Victoria's grip was like a vice. "She told me not to be afraid of her. That I was one of her children."
As we walked through the cemetery, I searched for the servant's grave. It was the only one that was freshly dug, so it was easy to spot. I was happy to see the servant back where he belonged. I didn't like the idea of Ophi using dead bodies as servants.

Walking into this one I really had no idea what to expect. I had read the description a long time ago and knew that it had caught me so when I was finally able to get it in my hands I started it. Now there is this little part of me that is in serious disbelief that there was any wait at all. Touch of Death really wasn't like anything I had picked up before but I had worried it would be with the little surge there was of death touch novels going around. With it's storyline drawing from Medusa and Greek mythology I found myself completely entranced.

If you want the basic rundown, the book is about Medusa's descendants. What Hashway did with it though was completely unique to anything I have read before. She has developed this extraordinary world that involves the 13th sign: Ophiuchus. Despite my primary worry that there would be no initial background expansion I was captivated almost immediately. Thing is there is background stories and a far more in depth look at the world that you are introduced to than expected in a first book. Beyond that there is a perfect pacing that didn't leave room for boredom because the things that needed to be revealed were all done with perfect timing.

Want a strong protagonist? You will find that in Jodi right from the start. She is a sweet girl that cares about how other people feel, what they feel but she also has her own brain and she uses it. Given multiple opportunities to just conform and believe what she was being told, I was impressed that she continued to think for herself and ask questions. She even held up an emotional composure when her world was basically ripped from her and she was placed on a metaphorical pedestal. With great morals and more strength added to her by the end, I can't even imagine where she will go next week.

The big question in this one was Alex. I was really undecided for a long time what his intentions were and I just wanted to like him right from the start. Biggest problem was the potential stalking and then the shifty attitude but my heart wanted to love him right from the start. The circumstance in which he showed up in Jodi's life and the change that it caused though disturbing to start actually were a blessing in disguise. These little things all caused the attraction between these two to be low key and develop into something perfectly. Romance may not have been the main focus and that was okay because what there was, was almost perfect.

The twists, turns and surprises come from start to finish and will without a doubt keep you captivated. There is no doubt in my mind that this was the start of something great. Hashway is undeniably talented and it shows in every sentence of this read. Touch of Death was an astounding debut that left me wanting more. Pick this one up without hesitation if you like Medusa and a fast paced read!
