Today I have the pleasure of welcoming author Andria Buchanan to the blog as part of a blog tour for her latest novel, Infinity. We also have an awesome giveaway for you guys, so after reading the interview and checking out Andria's books be sure to scroll down and enter!
1) How would you describe The Chronicles of Nerissette series to those who haven't heard of it yet?
Five kids get sucked into a not-so-fairytale world and have to save the world and themselves from an evil wizard if they ever have a chance of getting home again.
2) Could you tell us a little bit about the inspiration behind it?
My daughter was complaining because I wouldn’t let her read my adult romance novels. So, basically to shut her up, I wrote her a book series that I wouldn’t mind her reading.
3) Did you have to do any research for your books? If so, what was the most interesting thing you've learned?
Thankfully I didn’t have to do much research since it was a world of my own but what I did do was look at world building and how other authors had built their worlds if it was book first and then world second or if they built the world and then arranged the story around it. What I learned is that a lot of people do it a lot of different ways but the coolest thing I learned was that JRR Tolkien was like the master of world building and he’d developed full languages and all sorts of stuff. And here I’d felt special drawing a map.
4) Is there a specific character you identify with?
Mercedes definitely. I remember always being that person that felt like she was on the outside, never living up to other people’s expectations, never doing enough. I remember how horribly isolating that was and so I really identified with her—especially when she ends up alone.
5) Was INFINITY any easier or harder to write than the previous books in the series?
Much harder. I knew that I had to really put the characters through the ringer in this book and that at the end I was going to have to let them go and it sort of broke my heart.
6) How did you get your first publishing deal and how did that feel?
I signed up for an editing class at Savvy Authors.com called Editpalooze and I met Liz Pelletier and when the class was over she called and offered to buy the book I’d been editing. And it was a complete shock. I mean I was absolutely stunned. I think I asked her four times if she was sure because it really was one of those random Tuesday afternoon things.
7) What are some of your literary inspirations? Favorite books/autors?
Christopher Moore – Lamb, Bite Me, Fool, if Christopher Moore wrote it I’ll probably love it.
Terry Pratchett – the Colour of Magic is one of my all time favorite books
Kate Atkinson – Life After Life was my Christmas present to just about everyone this year. I love how she tells a story and how she can move you even as she’s challenging how you perceive the world of the story she’s built.

Although she’s still stuck in the magical world of Nerissette, Queen Allie is finally ready to build a relationship with the half hottie, half dragon next door, Winston. But all isn’t really fair in love and war. Unrest is quickly forming at the borders and soon Allie realizes that the Fate Maker wasn’t the only one who wanted her crown.
When her trusted aunt Bavasama sends her troops into Nerissette on a campaign of murder and mass destruction, Allie has a tough decision to make. She can’t take the chance of letting more people die or letting those she’s lost disappear from memory, but there is more at stake than even she knows. Still, Allie has to do something. And in the process she’ll discover what she’s truly made of when faced with a series of options…each more horrible than the last.
Patricia's a small town girl who was blessed with a large tree in the backyard that was a perfect spot for reading on summer days. Mixed with too much imagination it made her a bratty child but fated her to become a storyteller. After a stint of “thinking practically” in her twenties she earned degrees in Business and Economics and worked for a software firm in southwestern Germany but, her passion has always been a good book. She currently lives in Pittsburgh with her two wonderful kids and a husband that learned the gourmet art of frozen pizzas to give her more time to write. When she's not writing she can be found fencing and arguing with her dogs about plot points. Most days the Beagle wins but the Dalmatian is in close second. She's in a distant third. Patricia writes adult Paranormal under the name Patricia Eimerand writes Young Adult books under the name Andria Buchanan.
