Where to get:

As the sun's rays peeked above the horizon, lighting the abyss below her, she inhaled a deep breath, closed her eyes, and jumped. She didn't scream; she didn't look down. As much as she hated her life, she hoped it wouldn't end this way. She'd really like to see him one more time.

Her life didn't flash before her eyes as she'd always heard. Just an image of her mother covered in blood and her Dark Angel telling her he was sorry.

CREATUS is a new romantic-suspense novel with a supernatural edge that answers the myths and fairy tales you've heard about preternatural sentient beings.

Prepare yourself to believe.
(Goodreads)

"Soft golden beams of morning light saturated each strand of her hair, casting a delicate glow around her face. 'You're a beautiful woman. So smart, so sweet. Why have you done this to yourself?'"
"It angered him that she still suffered lightly from memories of her mother's murder, memories of what that butcher had stolen from her. Maybe now he could help her through them."
"I've fallen completely. I will never leave you now, nor will I ever take you away."
"He's too much of a hothead. One hothead in a relationship is enough, don't you think?"

When deciding what to read, I look for specific things. Sometimes it depends on my mood, but most of the time a dew certain elements make me happy to see in a book no matter what mood I'm in. Romance, paranormal elements, and sweetness are a few of those things. Creatus contains those elements. So it makes sense that I ended up enjoying this book, yes?

The paranormal in this book was refreshingly unique. The paranormal creature IS creatus. Never heard of that, eh? Yeah, neither had I. But now that I know what they are, I love the idea of them. They're so cool. It's not often that I read a paranormal book with a paranormal creature I've never even HEARD of before. Now, this creature does resemble another creature we all know and love (I am SO not telling you which, that's part of the fun!), but it has its own legends and background that was super interesting to learn about.

The characters were actually okay. As usual, I ended up a huge fan of the guy, Derrick. He was a strong, responsible, and all-around likable hero. Of course he had flaws. But none of them were anything worth disliking his character, in my opinion. The heroine, Kristina. I wasn't as big of a fan of her, but she didn't outright annoy me either, which is a big deal considering how often females in books DO. I didn't like her at the beginning of the book, but she does go through some great character development that I certainly approve of.

The romance was more mature. NOT in terms of sex, but in the way of how responsible the couple was about their decisions regarding the relationship. Trust me, this book is not racy. It is sweet and it did make me smile more than once, however. Derrick and Kristina made a good couple that I liked. I loved watching their relationship grow, especially after having such a different beginning to it.

I'm not going into details on this, because you need to read the book to really KNOW and understand, but I loved Kristina's "dark angel" thing. That was nice. (And no. That doesn't mean the paranormal creature creatus is like are angels. I wouldn't give you a hint like that.)

Overall, Carmen DeSousa has written a refreshing story that contains more than enough of the things I love to see in books, but in a unique way that I ended up seriously enjoying. If you're looking for a fun new paranormal creature to try out, I definitely recommend Creatus!
