Author Interview

Hi, Clara! Welcome to Bookish and thank you so much for taking part in Indie Girl April!

Thank you so much for having me! It’s always fun to stop by super awesome blogs like yours!

To start things off, why don’t you tell us a little bit about your books?

My books are all about how love concurs all! I’m cheesy romantic and I swoon over movies like “She’s all that”, “10 Things I hate about you”, or “P.S. I love you.” So when I write, I like to add extra sugar to all my romances. But most importantly, I’ve been trying real hard to include a message in my stories too, because for a lot of readers, including myself, books are what too real. They set expectations and standards in our reality.

Where do you come up with the ideas for your stories?

Honestly, I don’t know. Some are from watching a whole bunch of mindless t.v. Other times it’s these concepts I wanted or want in my life, but didn’t have. For example, Forever Kinda Love is all about childhood best friends that fall in love and how they never let each other down. Well, it’s safe to say I never had a guy best friend growing up… so, yeah ☺.

You write some super sweet romance. Is that something you think you’ll always include? How important is including romance in what you write?

Thank you! I LOVE super sweet stuff. And honestly, if you pick of any one of my books, here are the two things you can definitely expect: Super sweet romance, and how love makes, cures, breaks, everything and everyone around it.

And I don’t think I can ever write any stories that wouldn’t’ have romance or… short, as I recently found out.

This is something I’m always curious about, probably because I’m so picky about it when I write things, but how do you choose names for your characters? Is it whatever comes to mind, or do they have meaning, or what?

Hmm…. This is a tough one for me. I usually look for inspiration from books I read or shows I watch. Heath’s name was born out of Heathcliff from one of my favorite books—Wuthering Heights. But his brothers names came about because I needed names that started with H and are somewhat awkward—Hudson and Harrington.

In the same vein, how do you choose the titles for your books? And do the titles usually come before or after you’ve written the novels?

Honestly, I have no idea. Forever Kinda Love is probably the only book that came to me before I even started to write the story. But every book I’ve written so far, I’ve had different working title vs. published title. So I guess, my titles come from mostly completed story?

Do you have a favorite character from your books? Who is it and why?

Oh, Gosh. I’m completed biased toward Dean. He was my first born fictional character and the one I can’t always channel. He’s loyal to a fault, but never, ever thinks before he acts.

Can you tell us a bit what your writing process is like? How long does it usually take? And is the process the same for each of your books?

My writing process has been changing from book to book. I used to be a punster. But now, I think I’m a little bit of both. I plan to a certain point, then write however and wherever my characters take me.

What has been your favorite thing about being an author?

My favorite part is the fact that I can sit across from my favorite authors and talk to them, like I’m completely cool with the conversation, while inside I’m internally screaming, OMG OMG OMG, she’s talking to me. Keep it cool. Keep it cool! Second favorite thing is when I hear from MY awesome readers. I fangirl over their words.

I received a heart felt email from a fan recently—my first one—and I couldn’t stop smiling about it. It was so sweet and touching to hear from them and to know they connected with my story, my words so deeply, they took the time to write to me. Me, the nobody!

What are you currently working on? And what can we expect from you in the future?

Currently, I’m working on writing a brand new book: Butterly Pieces ←I’m sure this will change, and semi-plotting Book 3 in Lovelly series.

Expect the unexpected, with the exception of experience the joy of Love AND lots and lots of romance. Sweet sweet romance with a hint of spice in it ;).

Before we say our goodbyes, can you tell us something random about yourself? Just for funsies. And then that favorite character you mentioned--can you tell us something random about them, too?

Hmm… Random? I’m not exciting, so I don’t know. Hmm.. Oh, for the first time since…ever, I went on a weekend sleep over with some of my girlfriends and it was AMAZING!

Dean projects “world’s biggest jerk” attitude when he really likes a girl. He’s never grown up from being a ten year old in that aspect ;).

Thank you so, so much for dropping by, Clara! You rock. You’ll need to visit again soon! :)

Thank you for having me! It was so much for doing the interview!

About Flirting with Love

Hudson and Blake Lovelly lead a charmed life—successful careers, loving family, beautiful home. Now, on the eve of their daughter’s birth, they’re counting their blessings. Life wasn’t always so generous . . .

Fifteen years ago, seventeen-year-old Blake Voss walked into Cranbrook Preparatory High to participate in the school year’s most-prestigious debate competition. She never expected to fall for the pretentious, golden-haired boy on the opposing debate team, and he never expected to be ensnared by the quick-witted prankster with a heart of gold.

Their mutual love for joking pretense soon leads them to pull their biggest prank yet--pretending to be in love. But when danger threatens, Hudson can’t conceal his growing affection. He’ll do anything to be with Blake, even if it means risking his heart to protect her.

They didn’t plan for their friendship to grow into a love story. But sometimes, all it takes is a little Hope.

This powerful companion to Forever Kinda Love tells the history of Hudson and Blake’s relationship. Laced with haunting emotion and beautiful sentiment, this is a tale about overcoming even the darkest moments, reminding us all to love more.

Give more.

Without regrets.
