Musical Musings is a feature here on Bookish Lifestyle where I talk about music things! For more about this feature and past posts, click here.
I thought I knew what I was going to talk about today. I'd just watched a couple of covers by someone I've been watching for a while and decided SHE IS WHO I WILL DO MY NEXT MUSINGS POST ON.
...But then I read a book. And that book has a song all up in my head and it's all I can think about. Mostly because that BOOK is on my mind and won't get off it. So first I'll tell you about the book because that'll make the song make more sense.
The book is called If I Fix You, and it's by Abigail Johnson. Here's a little bit about it:
When sixteen-year-old Jill Whitaker’s mom walks out—with a sticky note as a goodbye—only Jill knows the real reason she’s gone. But how can she tell her father? Jill can hardly believe the truth herself.
Suddenly, the girl who likes to fix things—cars, relationships, romances, people—is all broken up. Used to be, her best friend, tall, blond and hot flirt Sean Addison, could make her smile in seconds. But not anymore. They don’t even talk.
With nothing making sense, Jill tries to pick up the pieces of her life. But when a new guy moves in next door, intense, seriously cute, but with scars—on the inside and out—that he thinks don’t show, Jill finds herself trying to make things better for Daniel. But over one long, hot Arizona summer, she realizes she can’t fix anyone’s life until she fixes her own. And she knows just where to start . . .
I'm on the blog tour (my post went up today, actually, so if you want to see my review and enter the giveaway for a finished copy of this book--which YOU WANT a finished copy of this book--then head on over to StuckInBooks to check that out)...anyway...I'm on the blog tour and I just read the book and I AM IN AWE. It was so freaking good. The kind of good that worms its way into your skull until it's all you can think about.
So yeah, it's all I can think about right now.
So the title has a song in my brain, plus it fits the story, PLUS it was mentioned in the acknowledgements so it's not even a double whammy right now, it's a TRIPLE so really there was never any chance that I'd have written this post about anything else. (Which means my NEXT Musings post will be about Kenzie Nimmo. Brace yourselves, friends.)
This post is about Fix You by Coldplay.
I've always loved this song, so it's not like this is something new due to an awesome book. But since I'm on that great book high that inevitable happens after reading a book that is a new favorite, I have all kinds of FEELINGS now. All I want to do is listen to this song on repeat and re-read If I Fix You and THINK. About all of the things.
Honestly, I love this feeling. It's why I love reading. I adore getting so taken by a story that I'm too stuck to do anything else. To think about anything else. It's amazing.
However, I don't feel like it makes for my best Musical Musings post. But this right here is part of why I wanted to do this feature in the first place. This isn't the first book that has gotten me hung up on a song for whatever reason and I want to talk about it. Even if it's just me relishing the content feeling of reading a book I've added to my all-time favorites list and sharing the song that I'm playing on repeat thanks to that.
Does that make sense? Have you ever had this feeling? I'd love if you'd tell me about it! And if you're a fan of YA contemporary, I highly recommend checking out If I Fix You. I'm not kidding when I say I added it to my all-time favorites list--it's seriously that wonderful.
