There are angels, and they are not beneficent or loving. But they do watch over us. They watch our lives unfold, analyzing us for repeating patterns and redundancies. When they find them, the angels simplify those patterns, they remove the redundancies, and the problem that is you gets solved.
Carey doesn’t much like that idea. As a punk living in New York City, 1977, Carey is sick and tired of watching the strange kids with the unnoticeable faces abduct his friends. He doesn’t care about the rumors of tarmonsters in the sewers, or unkillable psychopaths invading the punk scene—all he wants is drink cheap beer and dispense asskickings.
Kaitlyn isn’t sure what she’s doing with her life. She came to Hollywood in 2013 to be a stunt woman, but last night a former teen heartthrob tried to eat her, her best friend has just gone missing, and there’s an angel outside her apartment.
Whatever she plans on doing with her life, it should probably happen in the few remaining minutes she has left of it.
There are angels. There are demons. They are the same thing. It’s up to Carey and Kaitlyn to stop them. The survival of the human race is in their hands.
We are, all of us, well and truly screwed.

    About My Life in June

My life in June was super busy. Between my husband's finals and dental boards, I was scrambling to keep up with the housework, baby-care and bloggy stuff. It is over, tho! Today was Jason's dental board and we can finally start enjoying the summer season, yay! :)

    To be posted August 9
From the award-winning author of In the Shadow of Blackbirds comes a stunning new novel—a masterfully crafted story of love, loss, and second chances. Set during the fear and panic of the Great Influenza of 1918, The Uninvited is part gothic ghost-story, part psychological thriller, perfect for those who loved The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield or The Vanishing by Wendy Webb.

Twenty-five year old Ivy Rowan rises from her bed after being struck by the flu, only to discover the world has been torn apart in just a few short days.

But Ivy’s life-long gift—or curse—remains. For she sees the uninvited ones—ghosts of loved ones who appear to her, unasked, unwelcomed, for they always herald impending death. On that October evening in 1918 she sees the spirit of her grandmother, rocking in her mother’s chair. An hour later, she learns her younger brother and father have killed a young German out of retaliation for the death of Ivy’s older brother Billy in the Great War.

Horrified, she leaves home, to discover the flu has caused utter panic and the rules governing society have broken down. Ivy is drawn into this new world of jazz, passion, and freedom, where people live for the day, because they could be stricken by nightfall. But as her ‘uninvited guests’ begin to appear to her more often, she knows her life will be torn apart once more, but Ivy has no inkling of the other-worldly revelations about to unfold.

Moved my baby brother to another state. It wasn't okay then and it's not okay now. :'(

I caught up on all my series, a task I've been working on for over a year and it's a magical feeling! Now I just have to make sure I keep this up and read new additions when the come out (or binge already published books in new series I start) and not let them fall to the wayside.

I've gone into full organization mode when it comes to our house and my life. I've started a temporary planner until my new shiny one comes in (hopefully soon) and I've started cleaning out closets, our basement, garage, cabinets, so on and so fort. It's so freeing and I feel like a weight as been lifted every time I add something to the donate pile!

Katy knows the world changed the night the Luxen came.

She can't believe Daemon welcomed his race or stood by as his kind threatened to obliterate every last human and hybrid on Earth. But the lines between good and bad have blurred, and love has become an emotion that could destroy her—could destroy them all.

Daemon will do anything to save those he loves, even if it means betrayal.

They must team with an unlikely enemy if there is any chance of surviving the invasion. But when it quickly becomes impossible to tell friend from foe, and the world is crumbling around them, they may lose everything— even what they cherish most—to ensure the survival of their friends…and mankind.

War has come to Earth. And no matter the outcome, the future will never be the same for those left standing.

    About My Life in June
My not-so-little brother turned 18. Seriously, the dude's been bigger than me for years now. But I'm older, so I'm pretty sure I'll always call him my little brother. Anyway, he turned 18! Which is crazy. Makes me feel all old and stuff. (Even though I'm only a year a half-ish older than him. Heh.) My oldest brother also had a birthday just the other day (the 29th!), so that was fun. There was cake and laughs and general niceness.

THIS. Ohmygoodness, I just want to watch that on a loop forever because that baby... Except I can't because if I do, I totally get all teary because CUTE BABY. I can't handle the cute.

Better Than Yesterday! I had this big Twitter freak out flail about how I FINALLY figured out the title of a book I've been thinking about for YEARS. And theeeeen, my super wonderful and awesome Secret Sister gifted me the ebook! Needless to say, I was extremely thrilled!

BOOOOOKS. I read Scorched by JLA (which was phenomenal). And Trusting Liam by Molly McAdams (which I totally gushed about). AND I ALSO READ OPPOSITION. I have been dragging my feet on reading this book for such a long time. The Lux series is my all-time favorite, and I'm a really clingy person in general, so reading this final book... it was hard. But I finally did it! And it was amazing and beautiful and I loved it so much! Now I need to calm myself as I wait for Oblivion, so I can go back to the first three books and pretend my favorite series HASN'T actually come to an end...

Trina's Clay Creations (Review + Special Promotion)

Many of you know that back in November I married the love of my life. During the planning process Etsy became both a huge help and the bane of my existence, or my bank account's existence anyway. One of the many things on Etsy I researched during my planning process was cake toppers. Do you guys have any idea how many cake toppers there are out in the world? So, so many.

My other issue was Joe and I wanted to somehow incorporate our German Shepherd in the wedding. We had pictures with / of him in our guestbook, but we wanted something a bit more. Something that would stand out.

Enter Trina's Clay Creations. Hand crafted cake toppers for all occasions, with a specialization in wedding cake toppers. The minute I clicked on Trina's shopped and scrolled through her many pages of images (all of which are examples of her previous work) I knew I had to buy one for our wedding.

I'll admit I hesitated at the price and thought about it for a few days, but in the end I knew I would be disappointed if I didn't order this. Plus, I justified the purchase has crossing off many "must haves:" a cake topper, our inclusion of Bentley, and a wedding keepsake. Not to mention the added bonus of giving my money to a small business instead of a corporation.

I emailed Trina that January (we were engaged in December and I wasted no time planning!) with a few questions regarding purchase, sending pictures, and her current schedule. (Her Etsy page states that she does book up fast and is currently scheduling order for October shipping.) At the time she was scheduled until May, asked about my deadline - she was thrilled beyond belief that my wedding was in November - and answered all my questions and then some.

Once purchased I sent her pictures of us and Bentley, pictures of my dress (I told you I waited no time planning!), and told her once I had the tux information I would send it to her. She was even accommodating when a week or two later I changed my mind about the base and flower colors.

In the middle of May I received another message from Trina informing me that she was still on track to begin working on my cake topper within the next two weeks and just before she started she emailed me to confirm a few details to ensure the product was exactly what I wanted. I loved that she checked with me instead of just assuming! The next day she sent me a picture of the bride (me!) and I was blown away. Yes, I know I saw her examples but this one was mine! Later that day, she is exceptionally fast and efficient, she sent me a picture of the bride, groom, and dog. Four days later, she sends me this:

I mean, come on. How could I ask for a better cake topper? Simple answer: I couldn't. Not including the time period between me buying this and her starting it, it took only seven days for Trina to make my topper and for it to arrive on my door step.

I was - well, still am - so protective of this topper. I didn't even want to give it to the woman baking our cake so she make sure the top tier was the right size and then put it on the cake. It is above and beyond the best cake topper and we had so many compliments.

One of the things I loved about Trina is she truly customizes your topper. Your flowers, your colors, your dress, your tux. It's actually like mini you and / or your pets on the cake. You want to be represented by animals, you got it. Both of you are big sports fans and want to have jerseys on over your wedding clothes, done. You have three dogs and two cats, no problem. Kids from a previous marriage, throw them on there. Is your wedding on the beach in Hawaii and you want leis around your necks, sure thing. I could go on, but I think you get the point. Trina's addition of those personal touches (bridal bouquets, pets, props, etc) is what makes these toppers so wonderful and uniquely yours.

While her specialty is wedding cake toppers, Trina also has a variety of other polymer clay options: animals, trinket boxes, ornaments, and cake toppers for a variety of options. If don't see exactly what you want, Trina wants you to email her and discuss it with you!

Since then Cassandra has written more novels than she can count and put just as many in the circular bin. Her personal goal with her writing is to show the reader the character’s stories through their dialogue and actions instead of just telling the reader what is happening. Guest Post

I’m a romance author. That’s just what I do. In every single genre I write from contemporary all the way to historical or paranormal; I write romances. There’s just something so entrancing and beautiful about writing two people falling in love. That’s pretty much all I read, too. For me, there are a few key elements that every good romance needs:

    1. A HOTTIE – Every romance needs a hottie, but there needs to be something more than looks that makes them that way. To me personality can make a hottie even more than smoldering gray eyes and slicked back dapper hair.
    2. PERSONALITY – Since we were just talking about personality, my version of hotties aren’t dominating or aggressive. Don’t get me wrong, I love a bad boy. I just prefer him to have a heart of gold. I am not a fan of cocky jerk-faces.
    3. FRIENDSHIP – No good romance ever started with insta-love. Insta-attraction sure, but insta-love goes downhill to obsession and annoying inner monologue fast.
    4. WITTY BANTER – Ah, yes. This is my favorite part of romances. It deepens the personalities, strengthens the relationship, and makes me giggle. I like giggling.
    5. A GOOD CRY – I’m a fan of a romance that makes me cry. I don’t think all of them need it, but it’s nice to have one thrown in there every once in a while.
    6. BEAUTIFUL COVER – Preferably, fully clothed. I know, I know, you’re eyes are probably super wide right now. I just prefer my covers to be more emotionally pulling than hormone driven.
    7. THE SCENE – Speaking of hormones, every good romance has scenes. You know what I mean, don’t make me say the word. I’m a fan of clean romance, lots of kissing, emotions and fade to black. Use your imagination for the rest ;)
    8. A PAIN IN THE ASS – Yeah, I said it. I’ve come to love that pain in the ass character; the jerk ex-boyfriend, the jealous friend, the annoying girlfriend or the horrible parents. It just can’t be the love interest.
    9. STRONG BUT DAMAGED – I don’t want a protagonist who is constantly wondering why the boy loves her, or that she’s not beautiful. I also don’t want them to be a cocky ass. I relate to protagonists that are strong, but have some sort of damage they carry with them. Proving the statement, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
    10. A HIGHER MEANING – I like my novels to have a deeper meaning, something stronger than the surface romance. A cut and dry romance lacks depth for me. I look for something deeper, character growth, and growth for me as the reader or writer.

Balance of these elements means that every book holds its own character and meaning. While I love romance, the reason I write so many sub-genres is so that I can explore additional elements that round out a novel. I internally fear the day that someone might say that my characters or novels have become formulaic, but I don’t think there’s a formula for a perfect romance. It’s the different formulas for each novel that make them different, intriguing and swoon worthy.

What about you? What makes a romance for you?

    About Finding the Cure
Ellie Abela’s life has been anything but easy. Tragedy follows her where ever she goes, and she’s been a lot of places. At twenty she’s lived in over ten different states, all because of her dad’s career in medical research. His career is just another list of the causes of tragedies in El’s life. He’s dying, and with every breath he takes closer to Heaven, Ellie dies a little bit inside too.
At twelve she lost her mom in a drunk driving accident, and in a matter of months she fears she’ll lose the last person she has in the world to cancer.
While Ellie’s life has been rife with sadness, Trent Wentworth’s has been a challenge. A drug-addicted mom and a dead-beat dad meant at twenty three he was the adoptive father of his two year old sister. Now at twenty five he’s working his way up the corporate ladder and a struggling single parent.
Each is searching for a cure to the things in their lives dragging them down.
Not all cures are black and white; not all cures save us–and sometimes saving isn’t what we need. Sometimes we just need to realize how lucky we are to be alive, at least for this moment.

DIY: Glitter Mini Jars for Candles

When my lovely daughter turned 6 months and started going through 4-5 jars of 1st Foods Carrots, Apple and Sweet Potato, I've been having a hard time disposing of the jars. In other words, I finally got a good excuse to try one of the awesome Pinterest tutorials I've been salivating over for months. Only today, I'm sharing with you the mini version of the glitter jar tutorial :)

    What you'll need:

    - Gerber Baby Food jars or any other small jars
    - Mod Podge
    - Foam Brush
    - Glitter
    - Strings, Beads, Charms, or anything else you want to decorate it with (optional)

    Step by Step Walk-through

    1) Peel off the labels from the jars. Don't worry about getting the glue off, it really won't matter in the end.

    2) Using the foam brush, cover the jar in a nice and even coat of Modge Pod

    3) Apply glitter. Shake it a bit to even out the coat. Use a newspaper or some other piece of paper underneath for the glitter that will inevitably fall down.

     4) Wait about 2-3 hours for the Mod Podge to dry, then apply a top coat of Mod Podge to keep the glitter in place. Allow to dry completely for about 3-4 hours. Side note: Mod Podge goes on white, but it clears up 100% once it dries.

    5) Decorate with whatever sparkly, shiny, pretty things you have on hand :)

Confession: I have a nail water decals and nail stickers addiction. It might be a problem requiring intervention, yes, but you gotta admit these look so adorable! And they are ridiculously cheap (and I mean RIDICULOUSLY). So how can you say no to them? The answer is: you can't.

Every now and then I visit BornPretty.com and pick up a couple new ones. Each one of them contains only one sheet, but there is enough decals to decorate your nails at least 3-4 times, so I'd say for $99-$1.99 it's a pretty good deal.

They are very easy to apply. You just cut out the desired piece, soak it in water for a couple seconds and then peel off the decal and place it on your nail (you need to paint your nails first and let them dry). It's pretty much just like applying a temporary tattoo. Once you apply the water decal, add a top coat to ensure it stays in place.

All the decals I've purchased at BornPretty.com are great quality. They stay on for at least 4-5 days (or as long as your nail polish stays in place). They are very easy and quick to apply. They come in a good variety of designs and sizes, and they make your nails look like straight out of nail salon. If you're into mani-pedis, I'd say you definitely check them out.
