New York Dolls by Catherine L Hensley
Published 2014 by 48fourteen Publishing
Catherine L. Hensley will be on tour January 5-12 with her novel New York Dolls It’s Fashion Week in New York, and Denton Hodges just got her first big assignment for Glitter magazine. Denton’s assignment: Get in the show at the posh Regency Viscount Hotel, and find a story. But a chance encounter with hard-partying starlet Amber Donovan forever changes the course of the night—and Denton’s life. After a night of being chased by the paparazzi, swimming in swag bags, and falling heart over heels for Hollywood hunk Chris West, Denton’s not just on the story. She is the story. Suddenly, Denton’s no longer merely a low-level assistant. Amber’s latching on like a BFF from hell, Chris is flirting and cooking her dinner, and as Denton falls for the real people behind the tabloid screen, neither knows about her ties to Glitter. Only Denton holds the secret—or so she thinks. Is Anna Creel, Glitter’s icy beauty editor, on to her? Will Denton be able to write a story exposing her new friends? And is Chris more than just a friend, or did Glitter get the headline right—“Chris and Amber: Hot Nights!”? Step into the spotlight, and peek beyond the red carpet in New York Dolls. I came to NEW YORK two years ago, with lofty ambitions and grandiose ideas of what I could do and who I would become by living in the Big City. I guess every modern Manhattan immigrant feels something like that. Where else can you live surrounded by eight million strangers and still believe that, that one golden opportunity with your name on it is waiting for you just around the next city street corner?
New York does that to you. It makes you think all things are possible even when you don;t know what all those "things" are.
Josie, for me, it's gotta be one thing at a time. You know that. Love isn't just gonna fall from the sky and knock me over the head unconscious. I'll get to it when I get to it.
Or it's gonna get you!
Starting over had never seemed like an option. I'd lost everything, and here, in an instant, in another verifiable, mind-twisting New York minute, the possibility that everything could begin again, that I was even deserving of it, made my heart pound.

It's been a really LONG time and in my opinion LONG overdue for me to be this WOW'D by a chick lit novel. I knew this novel would be great the second I read the title. Being a native New Yorker, I was so excited to see how the author worked New York City and all the city magic into the story line. I was definitely pleasantly surprised to see, the author does make New York City a BIG part of this book. It talks about the dreams of the city, the author even uses specifics in her detail of the city as well. This part alone hooked me!

Denton, the main character in this book gets a dream job at Glitter one of New York's top fashion and gossip magazines. Her job is to go to Fashion Week and get the scoop on everything that is going on. Although very nervous to be given this much responsibility, Denton sets off to get the story. What she soon finds out is that, even famous people have real lives, real feelings and real problems. This one night takes Denton on a journey she never expected and helps her see what dreams are important and what she might need to let go of.

Denton is portrayed as a small town girl with a BIG dream. She comes off as super put together and very kind. She isn't one of those journalists that is willing to DO ANYTHING to get her story. She has morals and those morals are extremely important to her.

I also loved all the secondary characters in this novel as well. The celebrity scarlet that is misunderstood, Denton's friends and even Chris West who is a hunk of a movie star. All the characters fit nicely into the story and complemented well with Denton.

I can't wait to get my hands on more novels by this author and would highly recommend this one to any fan of romance, chick lit, or women's fiction novels.

A quick and spunky new release, I give this book all five stars.
