Review:
Unknown
In a mega-stakes, high-suspense race against time, three of the most unlikely and winning heroes Stephen King has ever created try to stop a lone killer from blowing up thousands. In the frigid pre-dawn hours, in a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of desperate unemployed folks are lined up for a spot at a job fair. Without warning, a lone driver plows through the crowd in a stolen Mercedes, running over the innocent, backing up, and charging again. Eight people are killed; fifteen are wounded. The killer escapes. In another part of town, months later, a retired cop named Bill Hodges is still haunted by the unsolved crime. When he gets a crazed letter from someone who self-identifies as the perp; and threatens an even more diabolical attack, Hodges wakes up from his depressed and vacant retirement, hell-bent on preventing another tragedy. Brady Hartfield lives with his alcoholic mother in the house where he was born. He loved the feel of death under the wheels of the Mercedes, and he wants that rush again. Only Bill Hodges, with a couple of highly unlikely allies, can apprehend the killer before he strikes again. And they have no time to lose, because Brady's next mission, if it succeeds, will kill or maim thousands. Mr. Mercedes is a war between good and evil, from the master of suspense whose insight into the mind of this obsessed, insane killer is chilling and unforgettable.

In the gloomy pre-dawn hours of a distressed Midwestern city, hundreds of unemployed hopefuls are lined up for a job fair. Without warning, a merciless driver plows through the crowd in a roaring Mercedes. Eight people are killed; 15 are wounded. The killer escapes into the early-spring fog never to be seen from again. Until now...

Detective Bill Hodges is a battle-hardened and streetwise crime fighter originally assigned to the Mercedes killings. Now retired, Hodges has lost his way in boredom and depression craving the thrills of taking down the region’s most notorious criminals. When a disturbing letter from the Mercedes Killer arrives at his door, Hodges soon finds himself uncontrollably drawn into a cat-n-mouse pursuit with stakes beyond comprehension.

Mr. Mercedes is Stephen’s first “hard-boiled detective tale.” It will transport you into a vibrant and dangerous world filled with gritty characters living on the bleeding edge of reason. Be prepared...

Above all else, though I try not to think about it, I know which life I prefer. And every night when I Cinderella myself from one life to the next a very small, but definite, piece of me dies. The hardest part is that nothing about my situation has ever changed. There is no loophole.

Until now, that is...

Every 24 hours she Shifts to her ′other′ life - a life where she is exactly the same, but absolutely everything else is different: different family, different friends, different social expectations. In one life she has a sister, in the other she does not. In one life she′s a straight-A student with the perfect boyfriend, in the other she′s considered a reckless delinquent. Nothing about her situation has ever changed, until the day when she discovers a glitch: the arm she breaks in one life is perfectly fine in the other.

About My Life In June
I attended my girlfriend's bridal shower and bachelortte party. The latter event was spent at local wineries before having dinner and crashing at a hotel.

I hosted my first Father's Day/family gathering. Joe and I had both our families over for a Father's Day cookout and it was a great success! I'm like  a real adult now!

Joe and I created our registry and bought our wedding rings. We spent an hour and a half and Bed Bath & Beyond picking out things for our registry. Joe loved it (said with heavy sarcasm).

I went shopping with my sister for the bridesmaid's jewelry. Apparently gold is the color of the season. Every store had gold, gold, and more gold. I am not a fan of gold and it doesn't match my colors, so it made for a tricky shopping trip.

Things I'm Looking Forward to in July
July 4th being on a Friday. Three day weekend! *Numfar does the dance of joy*

My first dress fitting! I bought my wedding dress back in January and, aside from pictures, haven't seen it since then. Can't wait to put it on again!

Spa Day! As a special pre-wedding treat for Becca, we - the bridesmaids and her mother - are going to a local spa for a little spa day.

When a gorgeous young dancer walks through his door, a strip club owner must decide whether to follow his rules or his heart in the third novel by the author of One Tiny Lie and Ten Tiny Breaths.
Owning a strip club isn’t the fantasy most guys expect it to be. With long hours, a staff with enough issues to keep a psych ward in business, and the police regularly on his case, twenty-nine-year-old Cain is starting to second guess his unspoken mission to save the women he employs. And then blond, brown-eyed Charlie Rourke walks through his door, and things get really complicated. Cain abides by a strict “no sleeping with the staff” rule. But being around Charlie challenges Cain’s self-control…and it’s been a long time since any woman has done that.
Twenty-two-year-old Charlie Rourke needs a lot of money, really fast, in order to vanish before it’s too late. Taking her clothes off for men makes her stomach curl but Charlie tells herself that at least she’s putting her acting and dancing skills to good use. And though her fellow dancers seem eager to nab their sexy, sophisticated, and genuinely caring boss, she’s not interested. After all, Charlie Rourke doesn’t really exist—and the girl pretending to be her can't get distracted by romance.
Unfortunately, Charlie soon discovers that developing feelings for Cain is inevitable, and that those feelings may not be unrequited—but losing him when he finds out what she’s involved with will be more painful than any other sentence awaiting her.

Honor receives her brother’s last letter from Iraq three days after learning that he died, and opens it the day his fellow Marines lay the flag over his casket. Its contents are a complete shock: concert tickets to see Kyra Kelly, her favorite pop star and Finn’s celebrity crush. In his letter, he jokingly charged Honor with the task of telling Kyra Kelly that he was in love with her.

Grief-stricken and determined to grant Finn’s last request, she rushes to leave immediately. But she only gets as far as the driveway before running into Rusty, Finn’s best friend since third grade and his polar opposite. She hasn’t seen him in ages, thanks to a falling out between the two guys, but Rusty is much the same as Honor remembers him: arrogant, stubborn . . . and ruggedly good-looking. Neither one is what the other would ever look for in a road trip partner, but the two of them set off together, on a voyage that makes sense only because it doesn’t. Along the way, they find small and sometimes surprising ways to ease their shared loss and honor Finn--but when shocking truths are revealed at the end of the road, will either of them be able to cope with the consequences?

Rescued by a stranger.
Haunted by a secret
Sometimes, love isn't easy...

He watched her, but never knew her. Until thanks to a chance encounter, he became her savior...

The attraction between them was undeniable. Yet the past he'd worked so hard to overcome, and the future she'd put so much faith in, threatened to tear them apart.

Only together could they fight the pain and guilt, face the truth - and find the unexpected power of love.

A ground breaking novel in the New Adult genre, Easy faces one girl's struggle to regain the trust she's lost, find the inner strength to fight back against an attacker, and accept the peace she finds in the arms of a secretive boy.
(Goodreads)

Keeping my attention on the lecture and defying the compulsion to peek over my shoulder was excruciating.  I was sure I feLucas's eyes boring into the back of my head.  Like an out-of-reach itch, the sensation nettled me for fifty minutes straight, and it took herculean effort to refrain from turning around.
This was the moment for me to say Stay, but I couldn't.
His mouth was demanding, his lips parting mine, tongue driving into my mouth.  I thought I felt a tremor move through him when my hand gripped the place on his side where the words were inscribed.
"Stop," I whispered, not meaning it, not wanting it, and he shuddered and removed his hand from me.  Curling my hands between our chests, I didn't move away, I didn't speak.  I just lay in his arms for long minutes, until his breathing slowed, finally becoming deep and even.

    Nothing is ever Easy...

I have an addiction when it comes to New Adult novels.  They aren't something that I pick up one after another because they are to be savoured.  Like a quality piece of chocolate; you don't chase it with anything you just enjoy it while you have it.  Easy was beautiful in its own rights and had a strong heart to it.  Webber pulled together something original and wonderfully written.  I was pulled in and will admit that I had no desire to fight the pull from the first page on.

I believe that the allure to New Adult is that it feels so real.  There is no perfect couple, coming from perfect backgrounds.  What I liked about this book was that the issues weren't up front and center... Well at least not right away.  There is a meaning to the meeting of the two characters and although it was not ideal, it linked the two together.  This is not saying that it was an immediate attraction, but more a connection that would not be forgotten.  Ideally the happening that caused their first meeting would be the only issue that ever arose, but it wasn't.  There was something brewing just beneath the surface and although I could sense it and had an idea, I was not clear on the problems that would arise from it.  With everything going on and everything that wasn't Webber had the grace to pull it into something that flowed wonderfully and turned at all of the right moments.

Jacqueline wasn't perfect, but who is?  I think to start I found myself slightly disappointed in her choice, but also realize that it is a decision that many girls make.  Despite this I did find her a smart girl.  My heart went out to her for following the boy she loved, only to be stomped on.  However, it is a learning experience that brings her more than she could have imagined.  She also has the strength to do what she knows is right when it needs to be done.  Through her shame and desire to forget, she learns to defend herself and realizes that this has touched more than her.  I admittedly had a few laughs on her and Lucas' behalf during the learning to protect herself, but she came out of it stronger.

Now that I have mentioned Lucas, we might as well go there.  I don't know if I would say he is your typical bad boy or not.  He is each side of the same coin really.  There is no doubt that he likes Jacqueline, but it is obvious that there are blocks.  Do I know what these are?  Absolutely and I did fairly early on (for the most part), but I can't share that because it would ruin so much for you.  However, you should know that he is an odd kind of knight in shining armour... He is the guy that you could honestly see on a black horse riding in tattoo's blazing...  Okay not quite but he is what Jacqueline needs, even if she can't see it.  Actually, she is what he needs as well but nothing is ever easy, or at least anything worth it.

As far as New Adult goes, it was beyond easy (no pun intended) to love this book.  Between the spectacularly written characters and the authors gorgeous writing style, it is no wonder that this book received so much praise.  I also now look forward to getting my hands on Breakable because I just know that it will be all kinds of amazing!  Pick this book up if you are a fan of new adult and if you are new to the genre this is a perfect place to start!

From acclaimed author Katie McGarry comes an explosive new tale of a good girl with a reckless streak, a street-smart guy with nothing to lose, and a romance forged in the fast lane.

The girl with straight As, designer clothes and the perfect life—that's who people expect Rachel Young to be. So the private-school junior keeps secrets from her wealthy parents and overbearing brothers...and she's just added two more to the list. One involves racing strangers down dark country roads in her Mustang GT. The other? Seventeen-year-old Isaiah Walker-a guy she has no business even talking to. But when the foster kid with the tattoos and intense gray eyes comes to her rescue, she can't get him out of her mind.

Isaiah has secrets, too. About where he lives, and how he really feels about Rachel. The last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a rich girl who wants to slum it on the south side for kicks-no matter how angelic she might look.

But when their shared love of street racing puts both their lives in jeopardy, they have six weeks to come up with a way out. Six weeks to discover just how far they'll go to save each other. (Goodreads)

My heels dangle in my right hand and I left the hem of my shimmering blue-gray ball gown with the other. Cinderella ran away because her coach was going to turn back into a pumpkin. I'm running away because I'd rather bee knee-deep in axle grease.
Under the dim lighting, parts of her hair shine and I crave to run my fingers through it. Fuck it. Once she goes home, she'll never come back. If Beth taught me anything, it's to grab hold of what's in front of me while I can. "What would you do if I kissed you?"
Somewhere deep inside of me, this horrible emptiness folds in like a black hole.

My sister. I search the crowd . . . looking for Ethan. I have a brother - a twin - and I have older brothers, but I've never known a sister.

Katie McGarry knows how to write the perfect romance story, I won't argue that. I fell in love with her writing after reading Dare You To and even more after Pushing the Limits - yes, I read them out of order. Sue me.

I was particularly excited when I found out that we were going to get Isaiah's story. After getting his heart ripped out by Beth in Dare You To, I was craving for him to get his happily ever after. I found it to be particularity heartbreaking that Isaiah felt alone. Noah was in college, working, and spending time with Echo and Isaiah had pretty much cut off contact with Beth. The close knit group that we encountered in Pushing the Limits had slowly drifted apart as they began their own lives, leaving Isaiah at the starting line.

Speaking of starting line, this is where Isaiah and Rachel meet. (See what I did there - the cleverness of me!) Rachel is struggling with living in the shadow of her sister Colleen, who died years earlier from cancer. She is the one her family looks to to keep their mother happy, the one who was born to replace the hole Colleen left in their family, and the one her father and four older brothers had a deep need to (over)protect.

I will admit that while I love the story, it's not my favorite. It's not that there is anything wrong with the relationship between Rachel and Isaiah or the novel itself, I just didn't swoon as hard as I did with Noah and Echo or Beth and Ryan. Something was just . . . missing. The element of danger created more of a serious tone than its predecessors, but I wasn't too worried about Eric, our "villain." He just didn't scare me like he was supposed to.

Katie does an amazing job of having numerous characters in her novels and ensuring that each character has their own personality. None of the characters blend into one another and they all stand on their own two feet. Even when characters from past novels make an appearance, regardless of the size, they hold on to the personality that we feel in love with. Noah is still Noah, Echo is still Echo, Beth is still Beth. I love that we get to see more of past characters as they play more of a significant role in Isaiah's story and bring about some great development.

The intricate weaving of these people into one another's lives is simply amazing. I love reading her novels and seeing friendships and relationships form from the smallest of things. I love watching minor characters from Dare You To become a major player in Crash Into You. I'm not going to name names, you'll just have to read it and find out!

(Goodreads)

"That's right, ladies and gentleman! He's our favorite bad boy with that infamous smile and those deadly fists, ready to carve R.I.P into anyone who stands in his way this year. The one, the only, RIPTIIIIIIIDE!"
Overcome with the impulse, I blow him a kiss.
He catches it and smashes it to his mouth.
"I'm the realest fucking thing you're ever going to have."
"Hey, hey, listen to me." He traps me with his arms and his gaze. "I am insane about you. I've been in hell without you. In hell. Stop being ridiculous," he says, squeezing my face. "I love you. I love you. Come here."
"I love you. I love you to pieces, and I'm going to come back and put you back together again, all right?"
"I adore you with every breath I take--in every ounce of me, I adore you."

It's always a wonderful surprise when I like a sequel better than the first. It's not generally a common occurrence for me, but when it DOES happen, it makes me feel all kinds of happy inside. And goodness, Mine really did make me so many levels of happy. I really like the first book. I loved the characters--especially our one and only Riptide--but the actually plot was somewhat flip-floppy. The on/off relationship frustrated me. I still enjoyed the book, but not as much as I could have. Now I picked up the sequel and I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOVED IT!

The biggest success with this book, for me, was that Remy and Brooke were already together. So instead of questioning WHEN they would figure out that they were meant to be the whole time, I was secure in the fact that they were an item. I watched their struggles, but felt confident they'd fix things in the process. It was just a really nice weight off my shoulders. I could sit back and enjoy Remy and the story without worrying about whether or not they'd break up.

This novel also contained some things I personally love in books, if they're done the right way. I can't say WHAT those things were, because that would be spoilery, but a few of the plot points worked well in this particular New Adult story. The rest of the plot was more awesome in the form of Remy kicking some ass. Don't think I'll ever get sick of Remington Tate being the best.

Brooke was way easier for me to like this time around. She's a pretty strong chick, and she is so great for Remy. Her inner monologue wasn't as wishy-washy in this novel, due to the fact that she and Remy are the freaking best. Both together and individually (but I prefer them together. FOREVER). Brooke does what she has to do to keep herself happy and keep things rolling with Remy.

Remy is yet again a character that I have fallen head over heels in love with. He's a fighter. He's strong and tough and one of the most real, raw, and beautiful characters I've ever encountered. He's a gentle giant, really. The only time he gets vicious is in the ring or if someone messes with what's his--including Brooke and the rest of their little family (which I love, by the way, how they have their own little family of Coach and Pete and Riley and Diane and whatnot). Remy is actually a darn good guy. He has his issues, of course, but he fights them and deals with them the very best he can.

Which brings me to the next thing I adore about these books--how they tackle the topic of mental health. It's a serious thing and it really does effect many lives. There's not a simple solution like medication or whatever. A person can try their best to be 100% healthy, but mental health is just so unpredictable (yes, I know this from personal experience). I LOVE how Remy portrays his struggles in such a real way, and that Brooke takes them seriously and in an appropriately sympathetic way. She doesn't hold it against him. They just deal.

Judging from the fact that a majority of the quotes I listed were sweet as sugar, it's safe to say the romance in this book fulfilled my craving for sweetness. Remy and Brooke are a pair that are coupled so perfectly. They can be strong together, and they can be vulnerable together. They just...they fit so well together and I heart them as a couple. SO. FLIPPING. MUCH. Watching them go through everything that happened in Mine made my heart so happy, even though I felt so much for them when they hit their low points. But even during those low points, they were united and I enjoyed that.

Overall, I loved this one even more than the first! I adore Remy, and he and Brooke are a couple I honestly don't think I'll ever get sick of. Their story is turning into something I look back at fondly, and I can't wait to read Remy's take on things in his book, Remy!
