In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Story SirenThis week I got two books, but these are two books that make me want to dance and sing - I'm so damn happy to have them! :)
The purpose of it is to post about the books we received during the past week (ARC, electronic galleys, books won in giveaways, bought or borrowed from the library - you can list anything you want!)
I didn't get to take a picture - sorry! I am flying to Europe in just a couple of hours and they're already safely packed somewhere in my two huge suitcases (both filled with books, ou yeah!)
And I just have to say it: I love Shannon from Harper Collins Canada - she's my book hero! She was insanely kind! I asked for a review copy of Shatter Me and This Dark Endeavor about a week ago, and to ensure I'll get it on time before I fly off to Poland, she couriered them to me! How absolutely awesome is that?! Thank you so much, Shannon, you rock! <3
So, here's what I got this week from HP Canada:
andThis Dark Endeavor by Kenneth Oppel
Victor and Konrad are the twin brothers Frankenstein. They are nearly inseparable. Growing up, their lives are filled with imaginary adventures...until the day their adventures turn all too real. They stumble upon The Dark Library, and secret books of alchemy and ancient remedies are discovered. Father forbids that they ever enter the room again, but this only peaks Victor's curiosity more. When Konrad falls gravely ill, Victor is not be satisfied with the various doctors his parents have called in to help. He is drawn back to The Dark Library where he uncovers an ancient formula for the Elixir of Life. Elizabeth, Henry, and Victor immediately set out to find assistance in a man who was once known for his alchemical works to help create the formula.
Determination and the unthinkable outcome of losing his brother spur Victor on in the quest for the three ingredients that will save Konrads life. After scaling the highest trees in the Strumwald, diving into the deepest lake caves, and sacrificing one’s own body part, the three fearless friends risk their lives to save another.
Shatter Me by Tehereh MefiNow, do I even need to say how insanely happy I am to get both of these excellent books? :) I can't believe I actually got an ARC of Shatter Me - Shannon said it's unbelievably popular and they're almost out of ARCs, so yeah, I consider myself one devilishly lucky gal! :)
Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.
I will be giving away a finished copy of this book sometime around the publishing date, so check back later - I definitely feel the need to share the love!
And This Dark Endeavor looks freaking fab! Totally my kind of book and I'm super excited to read. This book will be included in my MEN in YA November event and we will be giving away a copy of it as well, so stay tuned! ;)
What did you guys get this week? :D <3
Just FYI - Like I said already, I'm off to Europe today. There will be some awesome reviews and giveaways (and other awesome bookish stuff) being posted while I'm gone - hopefully I'll be able to keep track of everything even while I'm traveling in Europe!
And just so you know, I love you guys!
Expect some European SWAG giveaways when I'm back home in late October/November!
