I'm the fifth stop on the tour and I'm very excited to be joined today by Cameo Renae, author of intriguing supernatural mystery, In My Dreams.
I didn't get a chance to read Cameo's book yet, but I'm dying to! Both the synopsis and the cover are very intriguing and I can't wait to get my hands on it! :) Lucky for you guys, I am hosting a giveaway of this fantastic book and so one happy winner will get her/his own e-copy! Excited? You should be!
Guys, please give a warm welcome to Cameo!
CR: Cameo Renae
E: Welcome to Bookish Cameo! Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
CR: Thank you Evie of Bookish for letting me visit! This is a really cool blog!
About myself... Aside from the normal - born in San Francisco, raised on Maui, am married with children - I guess I live a normal life, but am I normal? My family might not think so! I love to laugh, and love making people laugh. My kids think I'm crazy, and my husband calls me "entertaining". But... in public I tend to come off as shy. Sometimes.
One thing you don't know about me... I am a great shot with a gun. When my husband and I first got married we would go camping at the beach. He would bring his BB gun, and we would shoot cans off rocks. I would hit almost every time, and loved it.
When my son got his first Nintendo game... the shooting arcade game with the fake gun... I whooped their butts, and left them shocked at how quick my trigger finger was ~ while billows of smoke swirled from the fake barrel. hehe ;) A quick note: Our family is related to Wyatt Earp in some way. My great-grandmother was an Earp, and came from Oregon. They told stories of the Earp's being family, but I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing? I'd love to be a sniper, only... I wouldn't want to shoot people. Well, after thinking about it just now... Maybe I don't really want to be a sniper... I'll stick to shooting targets instead.
Writing has always been a love of mine, but hasn't manifested until these past couple of years. Raising my kids was my priority, and now that they're grown... it's my time. :)
E: Who or what inspired you to write In My Dreams?
CR: When I really think about it... I think the main thing which triggered the inspiration was when my mother-in-law passed away. She was the first person who passed that hit close to home, especially my husband. He was a mamma's boy and was completely devastated, and her death was sudden. We found out she had cancer, and in a few months... she was gone. She was a beautiful presence on this earth, inside and out. After she passed, I began to question... What really does happen after we die?
In My Dreams is my interpretation of what I'd wish could happen in the unknown. Other things that inspired me was watching Paranormal shows like Ghost Hunters, Ghost Adventures, Lisa Williams, and Crossing Over with John Edwards. They said that our loved ones can communicate with us through dreams, songs on the radio, etc... Those are two things I used in the book. ;)
E: Do you mind telling us how long did it take for you to write your book?
CR: Because I had three jobs at the time, and had to squeeze in time to write... It actually took me about two years. I went a whole year with only the first 8 chapters, but finally, at the beginning of this year, I made a resolution to finally finish it... and I did!!! :)
E: How would you describe the In My Dreams in 5 words?
CR: Thrilling, scary, emotional roller-coaster, romantic
E: Are any of your characters based on people in your own life? Which one do you feel is the most like you?
CR: Well... I'd have to say that Michael is a lot like my husband. He has a huge heart, and would help anyone in need. I didn't base Michael's character on him, but I did give Michael a lot of his characteristics. I'd have to say that I'm most like Emily. She's kind of kooky, loud, and loves the Paranormal. But... I don't talk as much as her, and am definitely not as ditzy. However... my family might disagree.
E: What’s next in line for you? Are you working on a new book now?
CR: Yes, I am about 75% finished with my next novel, which is actually book one in a trilogy. It is a YA, paranormal romance / thriller with lots of twists. I'm really excited about this one. It's definitely a lot more complex than In My Dreams, and it has a lot more characters and settings involved. I had to become more organized, and learn to outline throughout this next novel.
E: What advice would you give to aspiring authors who are interested in writing Supernatural Thrillers?
CR: I would say... just have fun with it! Anything goes in fiction, and especially the supernatural. I loved the fact that I could put my own twist and ideas into my writing. I wanted to keep my readers on the edge, and keep those pages turning. It's hard to do, but once it's done... Whoo-hoo! It's a wonderful feeling and experience!
E: What genres do you like to read in your free time?
CR: I'd have to say that young adult, paranormal novels have been filling up my Kindle. I've got a load of them downloaded and ready to read. The hard part is finding the time. :)
E: Which of your favorite books would you recommend everybody to read?
CR: A few months ago I happened to find Amanda Hocking's books. Her books drew me in from start to finish. As soon as I finished on, I had to read the next. Her Trylle and My Blood Approves series were great. I've heard that she just got picked up by a large publishing company with a large sum of $. Kudos, Amanda!!!
E: Do you have any other hobbies that you enjoy?
CR: Well... I love to cook, although I'm not a great cook. When I'm in the kitchen, I love to turn on the Food Channel and chop away with Bobby Flay! lol I guess having them on the TV gives me inspiration. However, I've been told many times by my family, "How come we eat the same old food, when you watch the Food Channel all the time?" Well... I still don't have an answer to that.
E: If you could have a paranormal power, what power would you want and why?
CR: I would love to fly. I have lots of dreams of flying, but... Oh gosh...I once had this dream. Well, it was actually more of a nightmare. I was in a hot-air balloon, floating miles high in the sky, and then... I fell. I dropped and my stomach had that terrifying feeling of free falling. Well... mid flight, I stopped, and was suddenly back up in that stupid hot-air balloon. And then... I dropped again! It happened over and over and over until I finally shook myself out of it. It was complete torture! I hate heights, and hate that weightless feeling of falling. Ugh! Does anyone know what that means? So... anyway... I'd love to fly, and STAY in the air. Take off whenever I felt like it. Beat the traffic. Shoot to the store and back. Not have to pay airfare prices. Dang they are high! That would be so awesome!
- white or dark chocolate? Dark- coffee or tea? Coffee~ with lots of cream :)
- favorite fictional character? I'd have to say Harry Potter.- favorite movie? It's a tie.. Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.- favorite song? Perfect by Pink
- favorite TV show? So You Think You Can Dance, and Swamp People... Have you watched that? It's hilarious!
- ebook or printed copy? I LOVE my Kindle, but I still like the printed copies. I get excited as soon as I enter a bookstore: the pretty covers, the smell of new pages...it's wonderful!
