RP: Rhiannon Paille
E: Welcome to Bookish Rhiannon! Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
RP: I'm amusing sometimes, I'm usually right, I read minds, I write books, I have kids, and a husband, and dogs, and cats, and I like the conservative party.
E: Who or what inspired you to start writing?
RP: Originally it was a test in grade 6 that said I was reading and writing at a grade 10 level and therefor could no longer be taught by the elementary school teachers. So me and five other kids were sent to the library for "Creative Writing" and told to "Write whatever we wanted" So I wrote a story about a creepy doll, and then some horror stories, and when I was 13, some love stories. I had a binder full of them and at silent reading time in grade 8, other kids would take my stories to read because they often forgot to bring a book. (I always had a book though, and it was usually Sweet Valley High) I stopped writing during that time for one reason: My life turned into an urban fantasy pretty worthy of fictional retelling. (I do have a WIP called 'My life is an urban fantasy' but I'm scared of finishing it, because it's non fiction . . .) Either way, when creepy stuff IS happening to you, you tend to scour the internet a lot more for answers, and you tend to talk to people who might be able to help.
I got back into writing much later, when I had it all figured out and mostly was doing technical writing because I didn't want to repeat myself to the mass loads of people wanting to know what I knew about psychic development. That's how Integrated Intuition came out. It was an accident.
E: Do you mind telling us how long did it take for you to write "Integrated Intuition"?
RP: I began writing down snippets in 2005 and 2006 and had enough for a published book by 2009. I pitched it to Llewellyn's and had a lengthy phone call with Carrie Obry who told me how to fix it. They didn't take it, almost, but not quite. I ended up self pubbing it on my own in 2010 and have released it in 2011 so it looks more the way I want it to look.
E: How did you become interested in metaphysics and psychic development?
RP: It found me I swear! As I said above, my life became an urban fantasy, complete with ghosts, demons, possession, witchcraft, seances, empathy, telepathy, tarot, astrology, and even a good old fashioned witch shunning! The rumors back then were amusing, living through it, not so much! I tried to turn away from it, but *shrugs* I was born this way baby! (Lady Gaga) And so at 18 I figured that I couldn't quite be myself without being psychic, and hence I began learning the safer ways to do it. (Ahh another reason I wrote Integrated Intuition)
E: What does it mean that you're psychic?
RP: I'm not your everyday psychic reader. I'm one of those freaky natural people that can tap into your mind and read your thoughts word for word. Subsequently I can do the same if you have someone you're wondering about in life like a boyfriend or a husband. I call it Remote Channeling and I mix it with the garden variety clairvoyance (seeing things), empathy (feeling other people's emotions), telepathy (hearing things) and precognition (seeing the future) Integrated Intuition doesn't touch on Remote Channeling, but it is a topic I plan on tackling in a later book in this series.
E: What’s next in line for you, are you working on a new book now?
RP: Ha! Perfect question. I'm working on a lot of fiction right now. I've narrowed down this psychic development series to 3 books, and so I should be working on Unconventional Intuition, but I'm not. Instead I'm busy working on The Watcher and The Flame Series, which I'm still looking for representation for.
E: What genres do you like to read in your free time?
RP: Anything that doesn't drive me insane. I enjoy both YA and Adult, and stick to urban fantasy, sci-fi, fantasy, dystopian, etc. etc.
E: Which of your favorite books would you recommend everybody to read?
RP: Across the Universe by Beth Revis, Shiver by Maggie Steifvater, and The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
E: What are your biggest pet peeves?
RP: Amateurs who believe they're psychic because they picked up a tarot deck and have practiced twice.
Psychics, Spiritual Teachers, etc. etc. who believe they're better than everyone else and use it as a reason to threaten, belittle or demean others.
Anyone that believes they're better than anyone else.
Authors who think they're infallible. (You're not, just saying it, Jaqueline!)
E: Tell us five random facts about yourself.
