Q. Do you judge a book by it's cover?
It's a tricky question to answer with a simple "yes" or "no", because I kind of do and kind of don't.. When it comes to YA it does play a somewhat important role in my decision making (do I want to read this?), but then the plot and content is still the most important thing to me. I read a lot, and not only YA, but a lot of contemporary fiction, as well as thrillers and Asian fiction (and many, many other genres), and if I were to judge Philip K Dick by the cover of his book I would honestly never have read any of his brilliant stories. With YA, well, it's different. There are so many new YA authors popping up everywhere (like mushrooms after the rain) that they need something to catch the reader's attention, and it's usually the cover.
So, summing it up: the content of the book is THE most important thing to me, but I would lie if I'd say that I don't look at the cover at all. I LOVE YA pretty, lovely, intriguing and eerie covers.. me likes eye-candies!^o^~!

Hi Evie! That's a good point- with so many YA books out there (holy crap, there are a lot) it's pretty much up to the cover to draw us in-- otherwise it would take forever to choose something!

Yes, I surely do judge a book by the cover. Not always but more often then not. I'm known for not reading synopsis so if your cover doesn't show me what I want to know or if someone doesn't recommend it... chances are I'm reading someone else's book.

This is my first follow Friday. Hope you don't mind me joining in.
The answer to this question in my case is simple: No. But not because I'm so evolved or anything. It's actually because I'm legally blind, and "read" most of my books on audio through the library for the blind. Afterward, I post my reviews on goodreads, and that is usually the first chance I have to look at the cover art. By then, it is far too late to affect my enjoyment of the book, although if it surprises me, I might comment on it.

For me, it is the cover and the title that tempt me to read the blurb. If the blurb reads great, I'll grab the book. I remember the first time I saw Harry Potter's book covers, I was like, O_o...not sure if I liked them. Love the inside but the covers weren't really to my taste.

I admit I do judge a book by it's cover, with the sheer volume of books out there now a book really needs a good cover to attract my attention to it, unless it's an author I know already and I just cringe at the bad cover and dive into the book to get over the trauma.
By the way, I really love your header and graphics. The little boy reminds me of my youngest nephew just as he is trying to decide what to get into next!
He often sits down on the floor next to my chair with his book, or as he says it to me, "the book you buyed me!" and asks me to read it to him. And no that wasn't a miss-spelling that's how my 3 year old nephew says it, honest.

I think everyone looks, but people may just weight it differently. I don't really read YA but I notice they have amazing covers. I think they have to in order to stand out and catch the attention of their target audience.

A book's cover may draw me to it, but like you, the content is most important to me. :)
I think we can all agree that even the most beautiful book cover can't sell a book if the writing's not there. Book cover art may, at best, help steer me in the book's direction (especially if I'm in a book store) but it's not going to hypnotize me into buying it right then and there.
